I think it is time to revive this tread. It is the all-star break after all and what else do we have to talk about? Braves writers recently reported that Ender could be getting fewer starts against LHP moving forward. Ender did not start today's game against a LHP. Today Talking Chop retweeted their Should the Braves shop Ender Inciarte? article.

This offseason I was rather vocal about what the Braves should do with Inciarte. I said that with Acuna coming up that the Braves should be trading Inciarte for a corner outfielder. I saw several articles saying the Braves should trade Inciarte for Happ and ran with that idea. As of the all-star break I would argue that would have been a good trade to make. Of course as I've been told in the past, that trade may not have actually been available. If memory serves me correctly, I was called an idiot by the combative member on this message board because the trade would have been stupid.
This post isn't to say I told you so and this discussion was never really supposed to have revolved around Happ. The discussion was initiated because at his best Ender has only ever been an average hitter. Acuna was and is seen as a capable defender in CF and a better hitter than Inciarte. Inciarte should have been seen as redundant.
Ender benefits the team by logging many innings of plus defense. As it stands, Ender isn't nearly as useful to the team because he is a platoon hitter and can't log innings defensively if he can't hit against LHP. Luckily for the Braves, Ender's contract is not burdensome. Having a WAR capped player (if Ender remains a platoon player) is certainly not ideal.

For the record while I was concerned that Ender might decline, I of course couldn't know that for sure. I also wasn't under the impression that we would see his level of play drop this soon. Now in hindsight I can see it was right to trade Ender. However, It does make sense that the Braves did not make the move. The Braves weren't going to make a major trade with a new GM in control. The Braves were always going to hold Acuna back to start the season and likely a replacement level player would have had to hold CF to start the season.
I'm interested in seeing how Ender performs the rest of the season. More than ever I am finding it harder and harder to justify having both Ender and Dansby in the lineup. We should be headed for an interesting offseason.
