In much the same way as the best wine is the one you like, the best stat is the one you use...I think the problem many Saberfolks have is that they fail to use all the tools available to them sometimes....and that includes the "old" ones.....

Ya, Ender Inciarte, great ballplayer, average hitter. Nothing wrong with that.

Ender is ranked #142 right now using OPS. Seems the old school numbers are saying he's not that great of a hitter as well. You just made my point. Sabermetrics are statistical gymnastics. As for Ender, there are 30 teams with roughly 400 position players, so is 142 that bad? Statistically, that puts him firmly in the top 40% or so. Exactly no one has said "bad". Most everyone has said very average. You are the one making him out to be more than that. ... and he IS more than that overall... his defense along with not being "bad" makes him an assett. Which by the way, saber stats point out.

You're consumed by sabermetrics. Those are the same numbers that tried to tell us Jason Heyward was a great player. He has never been a great player. Heyward was tremendously overvalued because of defense.....in right field, no less. See if you find this interesting. For Heyward being the supposed poster boy for defense being over valued in WAR: 2010--> wRC+ 134 WAR 4.7 2011--> wRC+ 96 WAR 1.9 2012--> wRC+ 121 WAR 5.3 2013--> wRC+ 120 WAR 3.1 2014--> wRC+ 109 WAR 4.7 2015--> wRC+ 121 WAR 5.6 2016--> wRC+ 71 WAR 1.0 2017--> wRC+ 88 WAR 1.0

That's a part of Ender's game I want to see return.. just a wee bit of power every now and then.

I am working with the benefit of hindsight here. I talked on the old board about how J.D. Martinez would be affordable based on his production. According to Fangraphs Ender has been okay (.5 WAR). I still can't help but feel like we would be better off with Acuna in CF and J.D. Martinez (1.4) WAR in LF.
Ender's offensive production is absolutely worth talking about. The team should be improved if possible, especially now that Ender is no longer needed at the top of the lineup. Ender is playing fine right now, but again, he is disposable if the Braves can find the right replacement.

Randomly, I was perusing Ender's fangraphs page, and I came across the following concerning trend. These are his CF UZR/150 numbers dating back to 2014:
10.7 8.9 9.6 2.7 0.8
Can this be right? I haven't felt like his defense has regressed at all, but that sure looks like a disturbing trend.

I find that hard to believe. Does that stat depend on a certain type of chances?

Coincide with the move to SunTrust Park somehow?

I prefer DRS, and it paints the same picture 13 4 13 5 -2 It's way too early to draw much conclusion from the stats so far this year though. He could very easily bounce back and put up numbers similar to before last season.

I'm starting to think it's a flaw in the UZR metric, which has always been a bugaboo of mine since it's a component of fWAR.
The MLB statcast calculated him at 21 outs above average in 2017, 1st in the NL and 2nd in MLB. This year, he's again tied for 2nd in MLB with 4 OAA over the first 1+ months.

Some of the sabermetrics are quite good. This does not appear to be one of them.
