As much as I like JTR I would not give up Soroka and Riley for him.

As much as I like JTR I would not give up Soroka and Riley for him. Well, technically speaking, JTR has about $75 million in surplus value, so either the Braves match that, plus probably 10% extra for trading within the division, or the try to sign Grandal. Problem is, Grandal can choose where he wants to go, JTR can't. The Braves can't compete dollar vs. dollar against the litany of teams that will assuredly by vying for his services, but they can compete prospects vs. prospects. Soroka and Riley fall right into that $75 + 10% threshold. As I've previously said, I'm not big on trading for JTR, but if the Braves are dead set on it, then it's probably gonna happen, and if they're serious, I'd really like to see them give up a bit extra and try to add Brian Anderson into the deal.

I think Anderson would nix the deal. JTR is at his peak but the Marlins are not ready to compete. When they are, JTR will have some solid time left in him but there is the risk he will be about to start falling off. Anderson is definitely part of their long term future and I think they really would want the farm for him.
I'm just happy knowing at least the Braves think upgrading the catcher spot is needed. I hope though that the quick extension of Tyler before the season ended doesn't mean they've resigned themselves to the fact an upgrade at catcher is out of reach.
... because if I haven't made it clear, it will be a mistake for us to go into the season expecting Flowers to be a primary catcher who can give us 110-120 games and be productive. I also don't see us as a team that can sacrifice some offensive production at catcher like some teams can.

Prospects talk, and I betcha if the Braves added Pache and a starter to the deal the marlins would consider it.

Prospects talk but the cost of prospects may not be worth the return when you look at long term organizational viability.

I dont think I'd hate that deal tbh. It's going to take some top prospects to make that trade and I'd rather it be Soroka headlining it than Touki or Wright personally. I have no issue trading Riley at all.

JTR’s agent says that he will be wearing a new uniform next year.
Also, been using MLB pipeline for prospective trade proposals and found out today that fangraphs is much better at staying on top of prospect rankings. So, I’ll be using them to gauge surplus value moving forward.
A big difference between the two is that pipeline has Pache in the top 100 at #68. Fangraphs has him at #28. The difference in surplus value, between the two, is $13.5 million, but it could be argued that Pache is actually at top-25 prospect, which makes the difference, between the two, as much as $41.5 million.
In other words, the Braves could basically trade just Pache and Joey Wentz for JTR.

His agent saying that will probably have a negative impact on the offers they get, which might be good for los Bravos.

The more I think about it, the more I think we gotta do a JTR deal if at all possible. He completely changes our team, and while he will cost a couple or three good prospects, he also won't be making $25 mil per year. We gotta do this if we can. Yeah, Pache might make you regret the deal eventually, but that's the risk you have to take. He's a much better player than Grandal, and cheaper, too, which means we can improve somewhere else through free agency. I just wonder if we can win it all over the next 2 years, because he'd be pretty likely to sign elsewhere at the end of his current deal, IMO.......then again, you never know.
