They had to move him by tomorrow or promote him, and they didn't want to option anyone else on the main roster. Plus they probably owe one to Oakland for functioning as another MiLB affiliate for us.

Imma post this in the roster tread so as not to take away from the GIP tread.
But Braves have optioned AJSS and called up Derick Rodriguez for a fresh pen arm after that Cincy series wracking our pen. That series showed how valuable Chavez is to this team.
I figure Rodriguez will get optioned down again after covering a couple innings for this pen that needs a couple days performances froma fresh arm to recoup a bit.
Talk is once he's sent down, Soroka may well get recalled as good as he's been. I saw some bright spots with AJSS and saw some things thst he needs to polish up on-- not all his fault, he was partially brought up out of necessity(and dominating minor league performance)so they had to fast track him with Dodd being basically completely ineffective. His statlines don't look great(AJSS), BUT, I do feel like he is impressively close to taking a full mlb slate despite being so green and fast tracked. Learn to get ahead of hitters and be closer to the zone more often.
So if Soroka is to come up and take his spot once Derrick Rodriguez is optioned back after a game or 2. I figure the rotation is about to look like:
Elder Strider Morton Shuster(odd man out when Fried returns, and if soroka proves to be serviceable) Soroka
Then we have Wright, who is a bit of an enigma at this point. My concern with him is it's the same shoulder that got him sidelined in spring training that is now causing his lengthy stay on the IL-- though he is starting to ramp throwing activities up. Where will he slide into all this? Do they just let him recoup in triple A if Soroka proved to be effective?
Also a question with the pen, we are VERY right hand heavy there aren't we? I think we just have 1 lefty, I would like to have another one. But then when Chavez comes back, thst means someone will have to go. McHugh should be the odd man out in thst situation, bur he seems to have a vice grip on his spot. So does that mean Yates goes down? And when Dylan Lee is ready to go, what happens then? "Good" problems to have.
I would think for now if things go Ideally, we get the aforementioned Fried-Elder-Morton-Soroka-Shuster rotation(still think acquiring a vet to take Shuster's spot is high on the list, and not sure I can confidently count on Wright to take it with the shoulder issues)
Then we make an acquisition for a lefty reliever and get Chavez back.
Would have some depth available if forbid something happens to a starter again. No knock on Shuster and AJSS-- I just think they aree too green and have a few things that need cleaning up to be part of a post season roster-- especially both at the same time.

When Chavez and/or Lee come back I believe Heller and/or Rodriguez go. I don't believe Yates or McHugh are going anywhere. We also have Tromp on the roster. He's gonna go soon too. With the release of Culberson we currently have no backup infielders on the active roster. I hope they bring up Grissom or possibly Luke Williams. IMO, we need a backup infielder on the active roster.

And here’s where I refrain from calling him names because by now everybody knows anyway. We win despite his extreme efforts to sabotage us.

I am over McHugh... Yates not so much. I agree we need a backup IF If Ozzie, Riley, or Arcia go down in any game who do we have that could finish the game? Would we move Acuna in to play the infield? If Arcia gets hurt you'd probably see Ozzie at SS and Acuna at 2nd. If Riley gets hurt I don't know what you'd do.

I imagine they'll be sending the 3rd catcher down any day now.

We've signed Culberson to a minor league deal and a RHP named Seth Elledge the same.
The Mariners DFA'd RHP starter Chris Flexen, he's had a dreadful start to the season (7.76 ERA) but he was pretty good in 2021 and 2022. If he could get back to what he did those two seasons he would be better than Shuster or Dodd and probably even Smith Shawver at this point. I wouldn't be surprised to see us take a chance on him if no one grabs him before we get a chance. He's going to be owed about $4M for the rest of the season then he has 3 ARB years.

I would expect Culberson to be promoted soon. He gives great versatility and can be an emergency catcher.

Well as with everything, depends on the return. I don't want to give him up "just because" which this article seems to suggest. It's just like he's good not great at the plate and not good enough to play short so just trade him for a great return and move on. So with all those faults... who is anyone going to give us for him? If it's no more than a generic bullpen arm where I could sign some equivalent FA in the off-season, then no unless we are really desperate for that arm at the deadline. I don't think we will be in that position at all. Then I don't see anyone giving more than that and certainly not a young riser that's controlled for a few years. It could all change based on need at the time, but right now I am in hold mode with Grissom unless it's a package deal of some sort that nets a much bigger return.

I'll start by saying that I'll bet if you typed retarded.com in your browser window the fansided website would come up. I've never seen one article from there that didn't read like it was written by a complete mental invalid.
Secondly, I'd really like to know when ANYBODY actually considered Shewmake a rising star. At any point.
Shewmake is getting ready to turn 26, Grissom is 22.......but Grissom has "had his chance, it’s somebody else’s turn, now."
LOL!!!!!!
Shewmake had an .862 OPS his first year in A ball, since then his minor league freaking OPS's have been .506, .672, .715 and .734 this year (because he just had a good week).
During his time in the minor Grissom's OPS's are (starting at A ball like Shewmake) .848, 1.114, .891, .925, .792 at the MLB level, and then .836 this year.
The slugger Shewmake has a wRC+ of 80 this year at AAA while Grissom's is 110, but Grissom "has not been consistent enough at the plate."
This year at AAA:
Shewmake .236/.312/.422/.734 Grissom: .314/.377/.459/.836
And this writer has the balls to refer to Shewmake as a slugger and calls Grissom inconsistent and a guy we should give up on. I don't know what the hell she's smoking but I want some of it.
Isn't there a old adage about not trading a position player for a bullpen arm? You might do it if it's a closer type bullpen arm or if you have an abundance of minor league talent. So no, no thank you.
"Shewmake is living proof that a slugger in a slump can improve his form and turn his season around under the right circumstances — can the same be said for Grissom?"
Shewmake is obviously a way better defensive player, but not enough to make up for the gap in offense between the two players. And the majority of this article is somehow trying to claim Shewmake is a better offensive player at this point. Just amazing.

I agree with you about fansided.
Bleacher Report has become somewhat legit and fansided replaced it as ignorant and delusional fan fiction.
Nature abhors a vacuum.
