Mark Bowman @mlbbowman It sounds like the Braves may non-tender Charlie Culberson before tonight's deadline. This would not be a popular decision. Culberson's value would seemingly be increased next year when the 26-man rosters are put in place. Baseball is a cruel business. |

Why??? I know there are valid baseball reasons, but man, he was such a great fit on this team. I wonder if there are lingering effects of his injury that people don't know about |

As much as we rave about Charlie, here's a few cold hard facts about his season this year:
High leverage: 0 for 16 and a -55 wRC+
Medium leverage: 5 for 30 for a .167 average with 2 runs batted in and a -1 wRC+
He did only have a .294 OBP in 2019. I know these are small sample sizes, and I was actually surprised when I ran across these because it seems like he came through a lot for us. It's super hard to get 3 or 4 ABs a week and he seemed to defy the odds, but somehow not in key spots. It's the only reason I can think of that we wouldn't be sure to hang onto him.
If you want to stick to traditional stats, here's his season in 2019:
RISP .150/.205/.200/.405 RISP two outs .118/.250/.118/.368

It will NEVER happen, but compare Villar’s career stats to Dansby’s. I’d be willing to trade Dansby if we signed Villar and could extend him right away for another 3 years. But Dansby is cemented into SS until he has a .175/.280/.320/.600 season. Then they MIGHT start considering alternatives. |

4 years? They can have him Especially for that much money. JD will get 4yrs too and Rendon will get 6-10 yrs.. The braves will now how no 3B who can protect Freeman in fact it looks like the braves will take a step back. But hey AA did get us another yr of Flowers and brought in the only catcher in baseball who is worse than flowers defensively. But hey he could Panic now and bring Villar in to hit. 240 with 20hr and in Atlanta he could steal 25 bags. But hey he had a good war |
