Yes, Brown was going to be better than Heyward. In all fairness, that wouldn't have taken much.

From Bowman's column "Within the past two weeks a pair of scouts have essentially said, “I don’t think you understand how bad Ozuna is defensively.” AHEM........ I think he was a fool for turning down the four year offer, if he has a down year with the bat coupled with his defensive issues he could get like a two year deal for $16M from the Orioles after this.

We’ve all been through this a million times, Heyward didn’t live up to everyone’s expectations but he’s been far better than an average player. Career 107 wRC+ and an elite defensive player. For comparison sake, he’s had a 100 wRC+ the last two years and Ozuna has had a 108 wRC+, and people are excited about Ozuna giving us a lift. Ozuna’s career wRC+ is 112. Now somebody can come along and say well that’s not that bad, but if you do then you have to acknowledge that Heyward isn’t that far behind him. And we don’t even want to think about comparing their defense.

And we don’t even want to think about comparing their defense. Heyward had three yrs in a row of below .400 slugging percentage before last yr In the end its the back of the baseball card numbers that matter to most fans (maybe not on this board) but last two yrs Heyward had an OPS plus of 94 and 98. HR and RBI numbers of 8/57 and last yr a fairly respectable 21/62 (for a change) that was his first 20 HR yr since 2012 when he had his best yr for us when he hit 27 Ozuna has been a bit above 100 but in the end 23/88 and 29/89 with the better slugging percentage is far more exciting and attractive than the hidden saber numbers this fourm likes to tout for the most part. Just a different way of looking at the game And Heyward has not had an outstanding WAR since his yr in STL. Yes he was an above average player for us with disappointing production numbers and the STL yr was one of his better yrs but he had been mediocre with the Cubs (a tad better last yr) If I have my choice, I prefer Ozuna for one yr and thank goodness we did not pay Heyward given that hindsight is 20/20

One would think so, but we're talking about the same guy who did not rehab his shoulder like he was supposed to after surgery last offseason and then came to spring training overweight......heading into the last year of his contract.
Possibly not the brightest bulb.
Another factor with him......there's rumors from St. Louis people that Ozuna is going to REALLY REALLY like the Atlanta night life.....moreso than the average person.....
I'm hoping for the best with the guy but I will not be holding my breath.

I thought for a minute that I couldn't believe we were still talking about Haywood here in 2020.....
Then I remembered who I was dealing with..

I haven't gotten that impression, but I also never said anybody thought Ozuna would be an offensive god--my impression is that just about everybody expects him to be a solid cleanup hitter and almost everybody is ignoring the defensive liability he is going to be.

Sounds like you're gonna be disappointed if he has a good year.
