They must not have actually watched him play the last two years, he's been a 2.5 WAR player basically for each of those years.
I'll be rooting for him, and I'm not going to rub it in when the complaints start rolling in about his throwing arm, but I know what to expect.
Is his arm really a concern compared to Nick's? I was reading he was the best UZR/150 out of all the left fielders and 2nd in DRS. Oh yeah, it's a problem, he makes Nick look like he has a cannon. I've never completely trusted defensive metrics, and his supposed defensive numbers for last year reinforce that. He also runs terrible routes, it's real ugly watching him play the OF. We'll all get to see it soon enough. We'll just have to pray he steps up his offense and can compensate for his defense. He used to have a really good arm, but he did something to his shoulder, had surgery last offseason, and it did not get much better during the season. The fact that he couldn't get a 2 year deal from anybody in baseball to me is a giveaway that teams are scared of his shoulder. When it goes all the way out he won't be able to hit either.

If this doesn't signify that Neck will be a mostly bench player, nothing will. I mean, Inciarte will have to play SO bad for Neck to play a lot.
BTW, love this signing.

I understand your concerns. I'm hoping for the best, as I'm sure we all are. Maybe we get lucky and get the 2017 version. He gets a big deal next year, and we have Waters and Pache ready to rumble. That's a win-win.

Would like to point out that the Braves are going to start the season with an OD payroll near $150 million.
Let that sink in.

That's a win-win. I am praying that I am wrong, I would love to be wrong. If he has a great season then everybody is more than welcome to pile on and let me hear it for being wrong.
But I watched a fair amount of parts of their games this year (as I did with a lot of teams), so I have tempered expectations.
I do still have friends who are Cardinals fans, and since I had the Extra Innings package I checked in on them a lot through the year, rooting for injuries and losses so I could let my old friends hear it, and I know what I saw with Ozuna. Most Cardinals fans are pretty glad they didn't sign him, and that's saying something because their offense is so weak.
Ozuna was one of my most coveted players in baseball three years ago, but things have changed with him. A lot.

If he pans out the way we need him to pan out, we wont give him the money and years he'll demand for his next contract. You are such a realist I am, and I am rarely surprised by what we do or do not do. I never had any illusions we would sign a Harper or a Rendon. I wasn't in a tizzy about over-spending on JD. I said all along we were not going to trade away our top prospects, and I said Ozuna was going to be who we ultimately signed.

I wouldn't even think of piling on if you are wrong. Every concern you have is perfectly sound and logical. It's all a gamble. AA just decided if this gamble doesn't work then it's one season and we have Pache et al ready for 2021 with the rest of the core still intact. If it pays off we make a solid run at 2020, and we still have financial flexibility and all of our prospects.

I really do like the gamble though since it's just one year, because in reality if we weren't going to sign Castellanos, Ozuna just has to be better than Nick/Duvall to make it worthwhile. If he is then it makes us a better team, and we had the money to spend anyway since it was just a one year deal, so pfffft. I don't expect him to be a whole lot better than a Nick/Duvall platoon would have been, so even if he blows out his shoulder or has some other injury it's not like it's a disaster since it's just the one year deal. And maybe we get lucky and somehow he pulls magic out of his rear end. But that throwing arm, I'm not looking forward to having to watch that uckery.....

If I were AA, I would still make the move to get Marte. Trade Ender and Duvall, and that pretty much frees up the money we would need to sign him. That would give us an OF of Ozuna, Marte and Acuna for 2020 with Markakis playing a sub role. Then, hopefully Pache is ready in 2021 and we could go Marte, Pache, Acuna. And when Marte leaves, Waters, Pache, Acuna in 2022.
Just imagine this lineup for 2020
RF Acuna 2B Albies 1B Freeman LF Ozuna CF Marte 3B Camargo SS Swanson C d'Arnaud

Could we now maybe trade Ender along with a Wright for a good catcher. It's now our only week spot. As of now we have the worst 2 defensive catchers in baseball

JD had a monster year but we didn't re-sign him. Who says we would re-sign Ozuna? And Marte's contract ends after 2021, when Waters is expected to be ready.
2020 - Ozuna, Marte, Acuna 2021 - Marte, Pache, Acuna 2022 - Waters, Pache, Acuna
No one seems blocked to me, and by then, we will hopefully know what we really have with the 3 kids, Riley, Pache, and Waters.
It seems like a high reward for 2020, low risk for beyond move.

waters will be ready before Pache and both will be ready to start 2021. And we have to play neck in RF the next 4 yrs common

Oh, I think he potentially gives us considerably more than the Duvall/Neck platoon offensively. The good part is that we don't have to decide between trading Waters and Pache (which would we likely have had to do to get Bryant) and then regretting the decision a year or so from now. Nothing bugs me more than giving up a kid who goes on to become a star (going way back, Brett Butler comes to mind). Now we can hold onto the kids for one more year, which could paid huge dividends down the road.
