mmmmmm...... JD had a 2.1 UZR/150 in 2019, so good luck with the defense not regressing even more as he ages...and remember you can't complain if his defense does slip. Buying an apple that goes rotten about when you expect it to isn’t the same thing as buying a rotten apple. You put the odds in your favor overall if you pay $60M for an apple rather than if you pay $100M for an apple. And your rotten apple has an OPS of .863 and .854 over the last two seasons, a wRC+ of 130 and 121 and that decent -4.9 UZR/150 last year. But we’re just comparing apples to players here. Additionally, I don’t think we’ve been tied to Castellanos and he’s down to just a few finalists. I knew we wouldn’t add a power bat for the outfield all along because it would squeeze Markakis out of the picture and we aren’t doing that. If Snitker is still our manager in 2030 Nick will still be a starting outfielder for us. This is probably why we’re so set on adding a power bat at 3B. Acuna also wasn’t a fair comparison in regards to injuries happening. It could happen, but it’s far less likely to happen to a 22 year old kid than a 34 year old who had injury issues in 2017 and 2018.

Can’t believe Jose Martinez got liberatore. He didn’t. That other OFer that starts with an A that the Cardinals gave up has a really high ceiling. Black guy named Randy, can’t think of his last name. He’s their 14th rated prospect..

Yeah but he’s highly regarded. Martinez is just a good hitter against LHP and a terrible defensive player. The other guy is the centerpiece. Arozarena Is the guys name. He’s a really good hitter and a great defensive player and he’s major league ready now.

Tampa is a well-run organization. We need to be Tampa, but with a bigger budget.

When Nick was re-signed, AA clearly said that it was for a potential platoon role. I get that Snit has a history of overplaying Markakis, but if it was established upfront what his new role would be, then I don’t think it would deter us from signing Castellanos to play LF. Now, if we did sign Castellanos and decided to go with him in RF, Kakes in LF and Acuna in CF, then I would agree that there is WAY too much love for Markakis. I don’t see that happening because that would kill our OF defense. We need Acuna in RF and would need Ender in CF (eventually, Pache). I think Kakes would have good value for us as a LH option off the bench and an occasional starter. Either way, whether we re-sign JD or get a power hitting OF, I think the days of Markakis getting 500-600 ABs are behind us. The organization is smarter than that.

Yes, we’ll have to wait and see but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him fall into a more natural role for a player in the twilight of his career.

If we sign Castellanos what happens to Pache or Waters? At this point I would just play for 2021 WS and sign a veteran with some power to a 1 yr deal Move Ender and Duvall when one or both of them are ready. Castellanos is the bat we need behind Freeman, so you make it work. IMO what about Acuna? I would say opening day 2021 our OF will be Acuna Pache and waters. And as much as we need that guy to hit behind Freeman at this point I'd just assume go with the kids and continue the rebuild. It's sad that we have a huge hole at catcher and Grandal was there and we didn't overpay to get him and now we are overpaying for JD who will block 2 young guys

If that happens, it'll be a nice problem to have. I HOPE we have that problem.

Let it soak in that we signed Luke for 1.8 and Camargo for 1.7 Does not really soak in, but Lucky Luke, guess its better to be lucky with skin of your teeth results than consistently good stuff and be unlucky without results He does have a fastball, and when he is on he can be quite effective (sometimes) As for Camargo well, hope there is more PT for him somewhere in MLB, his OBP was off last yr he is better than last yrs play

Yeah... it was also said Camargo was going to play at least 3-4 times a week. You do realize that he got in 43 of the team's first 56 games, with 3 or more PA in 24 of them, right? And he was batting a robust .213/.261/.324/.585 after those games. Seems like he was given the opportunity - he just didn't make the most of it.
