I wonder if the league would allow a masseuse to stand with him at each base and massage his calf muscles between each pitch. I'm guessing not. But with all that money he could at least offer to pay somebody off to allow it. Maybe he’ll just hit bombs so he doesn’t have to actually run Maybe Snitker thinks JD looks like one of those baseball home run hitter guys and will allow him to not run if he hits the ball fair but it doesn’t go over the wall.

KABOOM D-son hits his first finger. That's now two times around the bases.

The 23 million dollar question, “How dem calves?” We've probably taken this too far already, but what i wonder is if the Braves had some kind of special program they wanted to use to help his calves, why did they wait so long to start it? I do think that should have been done and that he should have come to camp more prepared. He's blown off the importance of spring training, and I get that's true for a lot of guys.....and that it's too long.....but for $23M and the fact he's playing for his next contract, I think he should have started all of this earlier.

The guy has been in the majors for 8 years. How many at-bats do you really think he needs to be ready for OD? I'd wager not that many. I don't think the timing of anything is all that significant. BTW, I've read multiple times most players and managers have said that they'd prefer ST to be shorter.

I do think spring training is too long and most vets probably need 2-3 weeks of AB’s to be ready. But he’s had injury problems the last two years and is working on making changes, I would assume that includes swing changes. It seems like I read that. With so much on the line, I wish they would have started early and spread his ABs out over the entire spring session. Now he needs to play 75% of the games from here on out to get in enough swings. I could be totally wrong, we’ll just have to see if he looks ready for the first few weeks when the season starts.

I will say, I thing ST is long enough for him and the Braves to get in everything they need to get in. I could end up being wrong on that, but time will tell.

I thought I read somewhere they were working on some swing change to help his legs hold up better over the course of a season, but I could be wrong about that. It could also be argued that he needs to take it easier so that he can hold up the whole year. We’ll soon find out how it’s going to play out.

All I've seen is that they've been working on his base-running so his legs will hold up better over the course of a season.
