Possible, yes it's possible. Shirley you don't believe that, though!

Possible, yes it's possible. Shirley you don't believe that, though! As I stated in the OP, I give it a 10% chance.

Interesting note of MLBTR: “Speaking of the great Realmuto staredown, MLB.com’s Mark Bowman writes in his latest Inbox column that the Marlins are still insisting that the Braves include one of their current position players in a trade for the All-Star catcher. So long as that continues to be the price, Bowman writes, it’s unlikely that the Braves will cave into the Marlins’ demands. Bowman also projects that the Braves are about $15MM away from ownership’s top-approved budget level, noting that the team would like to preserve some of those resources for in-season additions when the need arises.” So, the Braves kicking the tires on Machado, in order to trade Swanson+ for JTR, because the marlins want an MLB ready position player, totally makes sense. Do the Braves do both deals and then hope to offload Teheran and O’Day afterwards? Certainly possible. You have less leverage if teams know you absolutely have to clear salary. The Braves need to trade Teheran and O'Day before signing Machado or at least have those trades lined up in the event they can sign Machado. I'd love to trade Swanson+ for JTR. What would that + have to be for the Marlins to accept? Speaking personally because I can't speak for teams, Dansby will soon hit Gordon Beckham status if his play doesn't improve. If not now, at some point Dansby is a failed first round draft pick. At some point he's maybe even not a fringe starter. At what point do you say he is what he is and ignore Fangraphs 65 future value and the good things that scouts said about him prior to the draft and when he was in the minors? I would be very surprised if Swanson were the centerpiece. Would Swanson + Pache suffice? You'd also need to figure out which prospects you are trading with Teheran and O'Day. How many teams can and would be willing to take on both contracts? I believe it to be more likely that you would need two trades to trade both. I'd love to have Machado and again I hope the Braves are sincere in their interest. I think the odds of it happening are low though because you have a number of other moves that would have to be made.

I'd take the under on that 10% chance. Machado is not the type of guy you want to tie your franchise to, IMO.

If they sign machado, trade for JTR, and say they’re good with a $145 million payroll, they won’t lose any leverage shopping both Teheran and O’Day afterwards.

I've seen and you noted that DOB and Bowman estimate that the Braves have something like $15M left in their budget. Let's say other teams see that information and assume it is roughly correct. The other teams see that the Braves have signed Machado and that the Braves are over their budget. Then the Braves say they are fine being over their budget when they in fact aren't and they then try to trade players to make budget. Would other teams just take the Braves at their word that they don't need to clear payroll when they are actively trying to trade two players?

Ya, who would want to tie their franchise to a 6+ WAR player? That’s just crazy. There's a lot more to it than that......and you know it. There’s only your confirmation bias. You see him act like a douche a couple of times and you assume he’s always been one, then you equate the O’s losing to being his fault, so now he’s not a winner, and on and on it goes. The guy is human and made mistakes and has apologized for those mistakes. He’s a hell of a ball player.

Braves have said all off-season that they have money to spend, “we can shop down any aisle”. Nobody knows exactly what the payroll could be because they aren’t saying. Ya, right now it’s $114 million, but they aren’t saying they’re tapped. They’re saying that they’re only interested in the right deals. Being picky doesn’t mean they’re cheap, or poor.

The Orioles tied themselves to that for awhile... didn't work out.. didn't renew. The Dodgers added him thinking that WAR would put them over the hump... didn't work out and it seems they are moving in a different direction. There's a lot more to it than that......and you know it. There’s only your confirmation bias. The guy is human and made mistakes and has apologized for those mistakes. He’s a hell of a ball player. Just to clarify.... made multiple mistakes.. apologized more than once. At what point does one see a pattern?

At what point does one see a pattern? You assume two things, one, that the orioles had a chance of resigning him (remember, he also has to want to play there) and two, they traded him because he’s not a winner. You have to really stretch to come to those conclusions. As for apologizing and a pattern, I’m sorry, but I’m not gonna completely write a guy off for making mistakes, unless said player cheats the game, and Machado hasn’t cheated the game. Seriously, I just don’t get the hate on this guy.
