To also be fair, nightman can justify his harper boner through WAR value. I shot that down last week:
"As a point of interest, here's Harper's yearly rankings in WAR since he came into the league":
2012 28th 2013 35th 2014 146th 2015 1st 2016 62nd 2017 21st 2018 49th
Harper IS up to 44th right now for this season, so there's that.

If the Braves got Harper, could you imagine this order... Acuna Freeman Albies Harper That's almost the perfect top-4 lineup. How about Albies Acuna Machado freeman Harper >>> Machado But, even if it were the case, the better lineup would clearly be... Acuna Albies Machado Harper The issue, though, is that my lineup takes advantage of on-base skills. Albies, so far mind you, is the weakest of the 4 at getting on base, so all things being equal, Acuna, Freeman, and Harper are better hitters than Albies and should be put in the 3 best spots in the lineup. Under your idea, Machado would be considered the worst of the 4 hitters. If you don't think he is, then your lineup construction doesn't show it.

In fairness, nightman has mentioned and been open to options other than Harper. I have and I am, but to deny that that lineup construction isn't the best in terms of any metric is foolish. We can get Machado, or Pollock, or Brantley, or whomever, but, that top of the lineup is amazing in it's symmetry and how each player is positioned in such a way to maximize their skill set.

Interesting.
As I have stated Harper is not a player worth top 10 ranking. And he is not as good as Machado. And I also don't get peoples desire for Pollock who is a part-time player. What I would Love to see is the Braves sign Manny and then bring up Riley and trade Swanson and Tehran in a package for a good young OF player.

The next two weeks could be huge for the Braves. They have series with the Phillies and Red Sox away and then come home to play the Mets and the Nats. They could separate themselves in the NL East and make a statement as to whether they belong in the playoff conversation. Here's hoping they can keep it rolling.

We talked about acquiring Verlander off waivers last season. It didn't make much sense at the time, especially for a team that obviously wasn't playoff bound. Verlander had a 1.06 ERA for the Astros last season. Verlander currently has the second highest pitcher fWar. The Braves would obviously be better with Verlander. I just don't think anyone saw this kind of resurgence coming.

People questioned Verlander, Morton was always considered a third starter, and Cole underperformed with the Pirates. Now they’re unstoppable. It’s weord.

Where do you all think Brian McCann goes next season. He has a vesting option that will most likely not be met. Do we sign him as a back up catcher at the age of 35?

I just threw up a little in my mouth at the thought. Actually he'll be 35. It's not the worst ideal considering he's a lefty and a stop gap. I mean Suzuki keeps killing it like he is, I'd like for him to to stay. He seems to like it here.

Can you imagine paying a guy $17M a year for what he's done the last 5 years? Especially the last three.
Even as a backup catcher I just don't like the idea.
If we think we have our catcher in the minors, I'd rather sign Grandal for 2-3 years and have Suzuki or Flowers back up.
