So this offseason we talked about acquiring Yelich. Yelich hasn't had that great a start to the season (.3 FWAR). I would have accepted Prado to lessen the cost and Prado has been terrible to start the season (-.5 FWAR) and for all I know he might never be a productive player again. The Brewers were considering trading an outfielder after acquiring Yelich. I would have happily traded for Domingo Santana (.1 FWAR) and I would have traded for Ryan Braun (0 FWAR) if the price was right. I guess making few moves this offseason paid off? This is some impressive self evaluation Pete. I applaud you sir. He would've still cost to much but before his stink on the DL Yelich was rakeing. You'll probably end up being right about him by the season end.

To be honest, it was nightman who was all about Yelich, not me. Thing is I thought Prado would be a nice addition to lessen the cost and maybe consider another player with a bad contract. I was potentially interested in Castro as well. He would have been affordable for 2018-2019 and someone I would have considered a possible better option than Swanson.
Sometimes a talented and affordable player simply isn't worth it. People talk about how many prospects we have. How many of them are/were expendable? The Braves really didn't have what it took to get Yelich based on players they would consider excess/willing to trade.
I'm really starting to think that free agency is the way forward for this team. We previously had a rather good rotation and no depth back when we had Beachy, Minor, Medlen, Wood, and Teheran. Then injuries really derailed the team. Gohara got hurt really early this year. Fortunately we were prepared for that. Would we have the best record in the NL if we weren't prepared for a starter to go down? We need to keep some pitching depth. We don't have positional depth to trade from.

.236/.400/.543 145 wRC+, .198 BABIP
Imagine when is BABIP starts to normalize!
I wonder if he'll be worth all the money then?

No trading prospects period.
We have Riley and Allard close or ready to provide a boost. Gohara is working his way back and I honestly wouldn’t mind if he spent the majority of the year in long relief getting his head right and in shape.
Ride or die with the kids. They got us here, let’s see how far they take us. This offseason is going to be fun.

Not a random Braves thought, but a random thought not worthy of its own tread. Cano is suspended for 80 games after a positive PED test. Cano has been quite good and would possibly be a HOF candidate without a positive PED test. I've been to Seattle many times and if I had a second team, the Mariners would be it.

That would seem to be the perfect post for the "around MLB" tread

no problem... not singling out your post at all, but its just funny at times how difficult it seems for a lot of folk to put a post in an already existing tread that is perfect for their comment.
I'm probably OCD about it, but it seems to me that one really active tread about a subject is better than 3 different threads with 3 posts about the very same thing.

This trade was worse than the Simmons trade, which might actually turn out quite well if Newk stays near his current trajectory.

Everyone knew Newcomb was a project. Thing is I always felt that he was going to figure it out quicker than he did or that he probably wasn't going to figure it out at all and the same goes for Folty. Luckily the Braves were rebuilding and had the time to wait for both of them. Patience appears to have paid off.
