Put it this way......it's gonna hurt him in free agency, I don't care why or how they occurred. Great! The Braves will be able to land him at a cheaper price. if the Braves could get him for say 3 yrs 25 I'd say take a chance. but to give him a long-term deal at over 15 mil a season is just crazy. I am afraid the market this season is going to produce the worst contracts in history. and here is why everyone has freed up Cash to make a run at harper and Manny . I'd say maybe 10 teams have 40 to 90 mil to spend. and once Harper and Manny go off the board teams will scramble for the scraps that are left and get into bidding wars for players like Pollock, Cutch and Chisenhill and Puig none of these guys are worth anywhere near 20+ mil per year but I think some will get it

Yes, but just like with all things baseball, the past is not predictive of the future. then what do you base your decisions on? Playing time, mostly.

Any teams interested him aren’t gonna low ball him because of accidental injuries. If they did they wouldn’t have a chance at signing him.

Touki just went 8 innings with 2 hits 4BB and 8k. Riley was 2-4.
Between those two and Allard I think we have enough internally to make a run at the postseason. Fried is coming off a 10k performance in a rehab start at AA also.

Completely agree. I have no problem with rolling out Folty Newk Sanchez Fried Allard with Touki as next man up and Gohara working his way back to form. Put Julio in long relief if not the DL, no one is trading for his ass.

Ouch.
Our catchers for July:
Flowers .172/.294/.241/.535 Suzuki .154/.250/.205/.455
Suzuki had a .961 OPS in June, but Flowers was only .659, so Tyler has been down for two straight months.

Yasmani Grandal seems like a logical get for the Braves. He may not hit for average, but he hits for power and he’s actually the top pitch framer this year.

Put Julio in long relief if not the DL, no one is trading for his ass. This is actually my preference, too, unless we can get a controllable, established starter without giving up the farm, which doesn't seem likely. Even if the Braves win the division, I just don't see them advancing past that no matter what they do. The Dodgers and the Cubs are both better in the NL, and the Astros, Indians, Yankees and Red Sox are all better in the AL, with the Astros, Yankees, and Red Sox all better than anyone in the NL. Now is just not the time to give up top prospects.

I would like to see us stay smart, make a couple of moves to shore up the pen and the bench and give us a chance to win that first wild card (if not the division). But don't sell the farm ... not for this year. It would be fun to see this squad play in October but I think the realistic ceiling is winning the wild card game (or division) and falling in the divisional round. BUT given where we've been the last five years, that would be an awesome step in the right direction. And the experience of playing in October would serve the kids well next season and hopefully beyond.

I think if the Braves can make a smart trade they should try to win now. But no way do I give up several prospects for any one player

Soroka, Parsons, Anderson, Wentz, and Wright. that is a Dozen guys who all could end up starters in the bigs. within 2 yrs.... Exciting
