Dead weight #1 gone. Now just need to sucker a couple of teams to take Ozuna and Smith off our hands. Go AA!

The #Astros pick up veteran lefty Will Smith from Atlanta for veteran starter Jake Odorizzi, as @markberman26 reported.

The Braves are busy. They're working on finalizing deals for right-hander Jake Odorizzi and outfielder Robbie Grossman, sources tell ESPN.

.205/.313/.282/.595 with a 74 wRC+ and a -0.6 WAR.
We would have the 2nd and 3rd worst WAR players in the entire big leagues.
In 7 seasons in the big leagues he's accumulated 7.4 WAR. No thank you.
I'm not a big Odorizzi fan, but he is having a non horrible season. He's from a town near where my parents still live, he was a high school legend, my dad went and watched him pitched several times in high school. Never did that much in the big leagues.
"Jake graduated from Highland High School in 2008. His senior year he led his HS baseball team to the 2008 state championship. As a pitcher, he was 14-0 with a .080 ERA. His senior year he batted .422 with 15 homeruns. He holds numerous Highland High School baseball records.
In 2008 Jake was Gatorade Player of the Year, USA Today National Player of the Year, Louisville Slugger Award, All State Pitcher and Shortstop, Prep Baseball Player of the Year, and All State Football."

When I made my previous post I did not know we had traded Will Smith for Grossman and Odorizzi. Now that I know that, it seems pretty brilliant. We rid ourselves of a putrid pitcher, yay, first and foremost. Grossman can either be a bench bat or a minor leaguer and he's a FA after the season. Odorizzi has a player option for 2023 for $6.5M with a $3.25M team buyout. So we have a chance he could help us, and if not he's gone easily enough.

They got Grossman.. supposedly he is decent against lefties and the plan is to platoon him in LF.

I am trying to pick out a positive. AA has earned that... If he can actually hit lefties he's better than Ozuna who sucks equally on defense and hasn't hit lefties worth a shiite this year.

But Rosario will be the platooned guy I assume. He'll play LF against righties and Ozuna will DH, and Grossman with play LF and Ozuna DH against lefties. Despite Ozuna's .485 OPS against lefties this year it makes perfect sense, because......potato.

Add Grossman, Adrianza, Oridizzi
Subtract Will Smith, Ford, Cano
That is an improvement of the team

Grossman has hit .280/.796 OPS against LHPs for his career. Not great but certainly better than what we have now. This year he is hitting .364 with a .990 OPS against lefties. He's hitting .302/.828 OPS against LHP starters. Sounds like a good option off the bench against LHP relievers too.

If he can get rid of Ozuna, he's the second coming. AA would never admit it publicly, but I think it's safe to say he regrets signing the beater, and Will Smith was only good for that one miraculous run last Fall. Two of his bigger mistakes, but it's impossible not to make some. He's pretty smart, though......now Sarge can't use Smith as a late inning guy .

Sarge hadn’t really used Smith in high leverage situations for a while. Heck, I think it had been a week since he was even used in a game at all.

Sarge hadn’t really used Smith in high leverage situations for a while. Heck, I think it had been a week since he was even used in a game at all. But Sargent Saggysack thinks the exact same way Bobby Cox did--once Smith had that playoff run last year Snitker was always going to believe Smith would get back to that level again--I can guarantee HE did not give up on Smith and if he stayed it would have only taken about two good appearances in a row for Snitker to throw Smith back into 8th and 9th inning situations. He took him out of the pressure situations (like 8-1 leads) so Smith could get his groove back and then he was going to throw him right back in to the fire. Thank god AA took that possibility away.
