Since there's been talk of the Braves seeking an OFer, you can bet they've talked to the Cardinals about Harrison Bader. He just got sent down to AAA today, he's having a brutal season at the plate. hitting .195 with a 72 WRC+. But he's a great defensive player, lots of speed, and he did hit fine last year and had a 3.5 WAR season. He's probably worth more than we'd be willing to give up, and I'm not as sold on him as I was a year or two ago.

I love the “young guy struggles, so now he should be trade bait” take. Just a month ago he was god’s gift and now he’s yesterday’s news. HE’LL NEVER BE GOOD AGAIN!!!! No I like Riley and think he will be a good player. However I want to win now and right now because of JD Riley is expendable a new closer is a must Like I said in response to another posters comment. I’m cool with trading Riley, but only if it’s for a true impact player, that the Braves can have for multiple years. Thor doesn’t qualify as an impact player, Stroman will be a FA after this year. Diaz is both, but you just don’t trade top prospects for relievers. If it was a player like deGrom, I’d absolutely have no problem trading Riley, but there aren’t many impact players available, and for that reason I’d prefer the Braves just kept him.

I read where the braves were looking into Aaron Bummer. I am all for it on a cheap buy

Maybe we will be ok with Folty back, Gausman to the pen and a couple of low price relievers or farm folks who can throw strikes and won't come in eager to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.I hope we don't overpay for a sure fire closer like Kimbrel

I still think Gausman is perfect closer... Right now I would be happy with Bummer and Givens or Puig and Garrett.. With Gausman closing. If we could get both Garrett and Bummer I would like to see Newk get another shot at starting

I think this deal is fine assuming Martin stays healthy. I see he's had some back issues recently. Looks like he's having a pretty strong run the past couple months with a really good walk to strike out ratio. Can be a reliable middle/late inning arm.
I'm also fine with giving up on Kolby Allard at this point.
I'm scared to think what teams must be asking for from the Braves after AA made a deal like this.

Anyone want to take bets that he shows up here and starts walking people left and right?
I think it's in our bullpen water!

Interesting that the Braves think Allard is equal to a two-month reliever rental. And to think, he was drafted before Soroka.

Wonder what the odds are that we can sign Martin to a deal? We’re going to need legit bullpen help beyond this year.

As with surplus value, I don't think it's a math equation. My bet is they really didn't want to give up Allard for a 2 month rental at all, but made the least painful deal they could make; one that hurts but comes from a position of depth. I seriously doubt they said to themselves that Allard is only worth a 2 month rental, but they had to give up something to get anything.

The fact that they did the deal tells me they weren’t high on his talent, enough so that they traded him for a two-month rental. Maybe it’s an overpay, in the conventional sense, but they don’t do that deal if they thought he had an effective future on the big club.
