Sign JD for 3 yrs and trade Riley if he has decent value
Maybe he will get better the last two months but is he even an Independent League hitter right now?

You don’t, you start the season with an OF of Acuna/Ender/Pache. Then you expect Riley to be better next year. We will probably sign Nick to another one year deal and Pache will be in AAA. They have a team option for next year.0

lol... I can't figure out if we're dumb because we rush people too soon or if it's because we don't being them up quick enough. Seems to change daily! I love the “young guy struggles, so now he should be trade bait” take. Just a month ago he was god’s gift and now he’s yesterday’s news. HE’LL NEVER BE GOOD AGAIN!!!!

However I want to win now and right now because of JD Riley is expendable a new closer is a must Unfortunately, to do that, I think we would have to sell the farm. We shouldn't do that. I'm fully expecting just a couple of add-ons to try to make us better for the stretch run. But the reality is ... to compete with the Dodgers for the top spot in the NL, we need an ace, a closer and probably one or two solid setup guys. We have the prospects to do it, but do we want to? It would leave the cupboard bare and there are no guarantees even if we acquire the best arms out there. Personally, I think we should stay the course, let the young guys continue to develop and not try to go "all in" this year.

I think it's the Dodgers' year, and if it doesn't happen for them, they'll be more vulnerable going forward. That doesn't even take into account the Astros and Yankees lurking in the AL. I just don't think going "all in" is a wise strategy right now. I don't think we're quite on that level yet.......hell, the gnats may well be better than we are. Getting rid of Harper was the best thing that ever happened to that team.

We are not selling the farm or doing anything that most people think about when they say "go for it now!".
The organization has said it for 4 years and AA said it on TV the other day. We have built an organization to compete year after year. We will do what we can to add complimentary pieces each one of those years after years, but if anyone thinks this team is going to trade Pache, Riley, Wright etc to "go for it right now", they are delusional. There is no "go for it right now" with this team. The phrase itself indicates selling the long term for a short term return, and it's not going to happen.
JD does not make Riley an expendable. The only way Riley becomes an expendable is if the organization sees another 3rd baseman in the wings who will be ready by 2020. This team is not going to think in terms of a 2 year "go fer it now!l window, and JD probably isn't going to be in any of our plans 3+ years down the road.

I think for us, a "go for it" move would be something like taking on a good portion of a Greinke type salary to provide another team salary relief. If the plan is to let Donaldson go next year, I don't see why we couldn't make that type of move if/when it's available. Revenue should surge to cover a good bit of it, particularly if such a move got you to the World Series. I'll admit that I've long wanted to see Greinke in Atlanta because he's a true ACE, but any number of players could fit this scenario going forward. Point is, this type of move basically only costs money, and doesn't eat up your prospect pool.

Greinke wouldn’t come free we’d have to give up something in return, we’d be competing against a lot of teams that want him. And for that same reason we’d have to take on a huge chunk of that $70M he’s owed the next two years. I just don’t see it happening.

Our big move is going to be Wes Parsons for Eric Aybar and Aaron Harang and everybody here knows it.

Some possible moves I'd like:
Severino (catcher upgrade from Flowers) and Givens from Baltimore. Peralta and Greinke (I guess I'd be OK with Ray if we can't get Greinke)
Read about these somewhere and sounds reasonable: Bummer from ChiSox LH relief pitcher Greene from Tigers (maybe with Goodrum who can play multiple positions)

"we don't need Goodrum" Yea...it was taking about a package deal with Greene and Goodrum for Allard and/or Wentz I think.
