At this point I would like to see the braves send both guys to Florida or back to A ball and hire a special pitching coach to rebuild them they both have good stuff just no control of it.

Wright has good stuff, but I'm not so sure about Minter. His fastball is awfully straight. Neither has any command whatsoever, though. I don't know that Minter can be fixed, but I do think that Wright can be.

I think they both are salvageable, but for chrissakes Minter doesn't need to be on the major league squad right now....
... much less pitching the 8th or 9th inning of close ball games.
Choosing him to do so is willful stupidity

I would much rather have seen him give Weigel a look than to have brought in Minter AGAIN.

I’ve been advocating for Swarzak and Webb to get 8th and 9th inning time over Minter for awhile now. There’s no guarantee they’ll do better than Minter but there’s nothing to lose, they couldn’t be worse and probably not as bad as Minter.

Paul Byrd made a good point about him last night, saying he was a 2 pitch pitcher, which is true. He needs to add a pitch to be a starter, but can be effective for an inning or so with the fastball/curve combo that he has now. The fact that he's a lefty is in his favor, too.

Minter has 3 pitches.
Ball a foot off the plate.
The hit batsman
The wild pitch

Yes Newk should definitely be ahead of Minter on the depth chart. And I should be too for that matter.

Pen wouldn’t be half bad if we could get an actual closer (Will Smith) and a good setup guy (Sam Dyson or Tony Watson).
CL Smith (L) SU Watson (L) or Dyson (R) SU Webb (R) SU Swarzak (R) MR Newk (L) MR Jackson (R) MR Parsons (R) LR Tomlin (R)
Give Snit some better options and not have to worry about guys like Minter, Sobotka, Blevins or Touki.

He needs one or two better pieces, but he's exacerbating the problem a lot by using Minter and Sobotka later in games than Swarzak and Webb and Newk. Surely you agree with that based on your pecking order you just listed. I like your order and choices for new additions, although those additions are pretty hopeful....in reality I think maybe we can get one of those guys or someone of similar ability. Like Hand or Greene and maybe a few other options. But we really have to have at least one guy who can be a legit better closer option.

There was no rhyme or reason for him to use Minter last night, I agree. I like Hand or Greene as a potential closer. Guys like Minter or Sobotka, I’d be ok with running them out there if we were still rebuilding, but not now. We need dependable pen guys if we are going to challenge a team like the Dodgers for NL supremacy.

If your pen is stacked top to bottom, then anyone will be a great manager because there really are no wrong decisions to be made.

Guys like Minter or Sobotka, I’d be ok with running them out there if we were still rebuilding, but not now. We need dependable pen guys if we are going to challenge a team like the Dodgers for NL supremacy. I agree. But there's also been no reason for him to use Minter in the 8th or 9th innings of any games since he came back up from the minors but he's kept doing it, and we can count on him to continue doing it. I agree we have to add some help to this bullpen or we're not serious contenders this year. The trick is that 15-20 other teams that have playoff hopes need bullpen help too. So anybody would have to give up a ton to get the bullpen help. We'll have to give up something that will hurt at least a little bit, but I'm ready to do that. I've said all along it would be wrong to trade Camargo, he's too good of an all around and versatile player, but damn, if you aren't going to use him then trade him and get some bullpen help for crying out loud. It would be a crime to trade him, but what's the sense of letting him rot on the bench AND having crucial weaknesses in the pen?
