Snitker just announced Acuna will be the cleanup hitter(a move made to baby Donaldson who wants to hit 2nd). He'll likely be pitched around a lot hitting in front of a soft hitting Markakis or a .220 collective avg from our catchers. 178 base on balls here we come!

And what’s most pathetic is the bullpen that’s going to open the season. It will likely consist of Puke Jackson, and Sam Freeman who can get plowed at any point, and neither should be ML pitchers.

I don’t like inciaete leading off and Acuna 4th, but here’s to hoping it works.

I don’t like inciaete leading off and Acuna 4th, but here’s to hoping it works. With 2-4 set as Donaldson, Freeman, Acuna, it's either Inciarte or Albies leading off. It could be both - Inciarte against righties and Albies against lefties. If those two play the way they are capable of, the offense could be scary good.

If I remember right Inciarte did get off to a slow start last yr in the leadoff spot, he did not come around to having half respectable stats until be was moved down and got better
Inciarte leading off is not a good move - would rather see Nick leadoff, he at least would get on base - I know he does not have much speed but he can get on base in that position
I don't know why Ender does not do well at leadoff, it must be mental not physical

Ditto -- though a healthy Viz is not the worst closer in the world You do have Shane Carsle and Jesse Biddle who have mlb stuff when their control is on Worse comes to worse Jim Johnson is still listed as a FA, LOL

But he's not really a run producer so it doesn't benefit to have him hitting lower in the order. With his speed and style of play, he's the prototypical leadoff hitter. We need to get the 2017 Ender in 2019.

He should be a prototypical lead off guy, I don't know why he struggled in that spot and got better when he hit elsewhere If we can get the pre 2018 Ender and gets .350-360 OBP in the leadoff spot that is fine - preferably 2017

Puke Jackson really should not make this team
Sam Freeman, that is debatable cause he has been a servicable lefty when his control was on

We need to get the 2017 Ender in 2019. Some people want to make fun of analytics and sometimes the usage of stats over the eye test period. I've always said you need both, and here's a prime example--to me it's smart to look at Ender's OBP and his OPS during his entire career for the months of April, May, June and July and it's really clear what we can expect. A .315 OBP and a .680 OPS until August rolls around. And that's not good enough for a leadoff hitter.
Our offense flourished last year with Ender not in the leadoff spot, so why buck that, other than the hard headed notion that he looks like one of those baseball leadoff hitter guys?
Here's Ender's monthly splits for his career:

The question becomes do you want Ender’s suspect OBP as a table setter or his equally suspect slugging % closer to the middle of the order? Not sure what the answer is.
