The Braves are not going to trade away the future and leave themselves in an unsustainable longterm position because they gave the farm.
Not.Going.To.Happen
I don't know who we will go after and sign but one thing I do know is that after Frank Wren, the Braves went back to a different model and they intend to stick to it.

They would likely be in the conversation. Let's assume all of this is even possible, how long would that team be sustainable for? You would have little strength in the farm system. A current young and cheap team would rise in price as time goes on. So you'd inevitably have to let certain players go once they reach free agency. You'd have a lack of dollars possibly in general. Would you have a major league minimum player to replace that free agent with?
I'm likely not going to favor a trade for Realmuto if the Braves do it. The Braves need to be adding to the farm system and not subtracting from it. Now that the Braves have money to spend the rumor is that they might trade for players to account for that payroll. Free agents such as Brantley might be overpaid. But I don't see how the solution is trading for players when you have to give up players to acquire the desired player and then pay the desired player on top of that. As it stands the Braves were a good, but not great team. They won a weak division. My desire is to keep winning the division, hold steady. I don't think the Braves should be trying to win the World Series right now. The Braves would of course be trying to do just that if they traded for those three players.
Well, it really depends on what the Braves would have to give up to get them. It's hard to say as I don't really think the Braves could extend all three, and they'd lose a huge chunk of their farm, so when Albies, Acuna, and Freeman become FAs, who would they be replaced by? It's not really a possible outcome for the Braves, but I found it interesting that the Braves were possible destinations for all three.

Well I think that's just the thing. All three could theoretically be options for the Braves. I wonder if the Braves would even trade for two of them though.
How long do you think the Braves will keep Riley at AAA? I don't see why you would develop a player only to get them to AAA and then trade them. What sort of contract do you think Donaldson wants? Do you believe Culberson can put up good numbers again if forced into starting at times next season? I might be down for, would at least consider trading Camargo and signing Donaldson while waiting for Riley.

That's not going to happen. I can't believe even two of those would happen. Despite how good MadBum and Arenado are, you don't trade away your future for one guaranteed year for each of those guys. That's a dell knell for the 2020 to 2025 and maybe more era. That's crazy talk. Especially when you have the option to sign Corbin now or sign Bumgarner and/or Arenado after 2019. I can see Realmuto now but neither one of the other two.

You guys member berry when we wanted to trade for Lecroy? I member. Are we in our World Series window? You can argue that we are in which case Realmuto would be useful but catchers are not a long term solution these days.
Outside of what we get in free agency I wouldn’t be upset with the wait and see approach unless it involves moving an Ender or Newk.

What do you mean by "catchers are not a long term solution"
When ypu need a catcher you need a catcher, and good ones tend to last a few years.

I'm looking at the Red Sox and the Dodgers and I'm seeing the Dodgers starting Austin Barnes, and his 0.3 WAR, and Puig, and his 1.8 WAR; and the Red Sox starting Ian Kinsler, 0.0 WAR, Christian Vasquez, -0.8 WAR. I'm starting to think having Tyler Flowers as the Braves starting catcher isn't gonna ruin the Braves chances.

Mark this post, Realmuto is average in 3 years. Does that mean 3 years from now that he will be what Flowers is right now?

My ideal offseason is to sign either Harper, Pollock, or Brantly in order of preference, trade for MadBum, sign one or two key bullpen pieces, and really let the bullpen and rotation fill itself out with all the young talent we have. One big trade will cost us but I still think we'll have enough young pitching to fill out a lot of spots internally.
