Sure call him Flowers in 3 years. Contributing player and useful but those 4 high end prospects would have been better served bringing in an Ace for playoff purposes. Catcher is the easiest position to hide a bad bat and I just don’t necessarily that much more an advantage on the field as it is on paper to have a strong hitting catcher.
I personally would rather wait another year if Realmuto is the play and get some very short term solution guys instead. See what Contreras, Pache, and Riley can do. Sort out the young pitching. Maybe Fried, Wilson, and Weigel just need to be in the pen. Go into the following year with all the cash and hope it’s the type market that yielded a JD Martinez type contracts.

Anyone curious if we could snag Eovaldi to be our closer? He's been flat out filthy from the pen this Series. His arm may hold up better in the pen than in the rotation. 4/$48M may be more than he gets offered as a starter, but would be a Stark discount compared to Kimbrel.
Thoughts?

My ideal offseason is to sign either Harper, Pollock, or Brantly in order of preference, trade for MadBum, sign one or two key bullpen pieces, and really let the bullpen and rotation fill itself out with all the young talent we have. One big trade will cost us but I still think we'll have enough young pitching to fill out a lot of spots internally. I hate to be the dream crusher, but... Per MLBTraderumors Significant Free Agent Splash May Be Unlikely For Braves By Steve Adams | October 24, 2018 at 5:54pm CDT Gabe Burns of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution looks at the Braves’ need for some help atop the rotation and the means by which they could acquire said help, though he notes that recent comments by GM Alex Anthopoulos caution against the possibility of an expensive splash. “If there’s a deal that makes sense for us, and it’s a good asset to have, we’ll do it,” said Anthopoulos. “I think the one where you scratch and really push, and you want to call it overpay in years or dollars, you feel like that’s the one final piece. … I don’t think we’re there yet right now.” Atlanta does have plenty of intriguing arms in the upper minors, some of whom have already debuted in the Majors. It’s possible that a few prominent contributors could yet emerge from within or that those pieces could be packaged for some high-end, cost-controlled help. A free-agent splash for someone like Patrick Corbin, however, seems decidedly less likely.

I'm fairly certain a team will sign him to start. Red Sox have the luxury of putting him in the pen cause they can throw out Sale/Price/Porcello. Also, as an aside, 50 posts is darn pathetic, my man. Let's get that post count trending upwards. It's the off-season, your bread and butter time of year. I expect potential trade and roster configuration posts from you, my friend.

I agree, others will want him to start. My only *hope* is that, since he's had 2 TJ surgeries, teams are wary of giving him significant guaranteed dollars and years. Honestly, I think 4/$48M would be the most guaranteed he'd be offerred, regardless of role. We would have to gamble that a shift to the pen helps keep his arm intact ... But no guarantees there either. I'd like to post more, but just don't have the time. 2 young kids and DIY renovating a home for the 2nd time, I just flat-out don't have any free time right now.

My expectations are we get a right fielder from one of those lesser known names we talked about.. We might get a pitcher like a Corbin, but no bigger name. We will work on solidifying the pen with some older veterans.
I don't expect Madbum, Harper, or Pollock to be where we go.

I think the Braves will trade for an OFer, sign a couple high end relievers, improve the bench, and call it a day. Basically, trade for Haniger, sign Miller and Familia, sign McCann and that’s about it.

I just threw up a little in my mouth.
I'd take Grandal for 2 years way more than I would McCann, with the assumption Contreras would be ready at that point. It would be worth the extra cost.

What happened to <cough> Harper <cough>? Are you at the doctor's office right now by any chance or are those real coughs?

Saw an interesting trade proposal on mlbtraderumors chat yesterday
"For 3 years of Schwarber, how about a straight up deal of Schwarber for Allard or Soroka and maybe a mid-tier prospect. Or Schwarber for Kyle Wright and Max Fried. Cubs lack pitching depth and Braves need a LF/cleanup hitter so there's definitely a match."
Sign Grandal for C and you could be looking at a 2019 lineup of:
RF Acuna (R) 2B Albies (S) 1B Freeman (L) LF Schwarber (L) C Grandal (S) 3B Camargo (S) CF Inciarte (L) SS Swanson (R)
It's an interesting proposal. Man, I can't wait until the offseason starts ...

Idk about others but if I'm giving up a Soroka or a Wright it better be for a player of AT LEAST Realmuto's caliber and not a low WAR power hitter who cant play D in Schwarber. We had him before in Gattis. He's destined to be a DH imo.

I would rather not give up Soroka or Wright unless it is a bigger name than Schwarber. I would do one of Fried of Allard and another mid-tier prospect for Schwarber, but I doubt the Cubs would like that. Maybe package Fried and Allard together....but I don't even like that because of the high upside I see both of them still having.
I'm holding out hope for the Harper signing until I hear he is already signed. Please God / Liberty Media.
I am fully on board with the "keep Flowers as our catcher and fill every other need" train.
