Exactly... we do need to improve the bench but I think that means we give up little to add to the.... bench. Not we add starters by trading the top of the farm and improve the bench by moving current starters there.

Or you add to the bench by improving your starting lineup and sending one of the LESSers to the bench

You could improve the bench by releasing Santana and playing a man down.

Bottom line is that the Dodgers can afford to do that because they are in that "all or nothing" window. We are not. This team, while young and talented, are not World Series ready - yet. Can we make the postseason? Sure. I think it would be a great step in the right direction to play in October this year, but not sacrificing the hopefully numerous times we will be able to play in October in the next few years to come. The Braves have been and are continuing to be smart in the rebuild. No more knee-jerk reactions please. Go out and fortify the rotation with a guy like Eovaldi, get a couple of good young relievers like Barraclough or Kela and see what happens. And no Moose please. The guys we have are good enough if utilized properly. Hopefully Snit will figure this out or be pressured to tinker with the lineup to maximize its potential. Without a big splash, we should be playing meaningful baseball in September and after the last few years, that's all we could really ask for. No to Moose and yes to Barraclough.

Not sure what Barraclaugh would cost but the Padres got Mejia Kieth Laws #5 overall prospect for controlled relievers Hand and Cimber. I wouldnt want the Braves paying such a steep price like that right now.

Whereas the cost of improving the bench by adding a bench player would cost much less. Did I really need to say it again?

I've read Fulmer is a potential trade candidate. I don't know how true that might be. Count me out as interested in him or other starting pitchers for that matter.

Why would you be interested in the Braves trading for an, at best, #2 starter? Braves have so many pitchers in the pipeline, the only starter they should trade for is a clear cut Ace, like deGrom. Fulmer is not an Ace.

Ask and ye shall receive ... Santana just DFA'd and Reed called up Yay, but it's a tempered one, because somehow he and Bourjos keep ending up on our big league roster again down the road.
Even if it's not this year, he'll be invited to spring training next year.
