I would tar and feather AA if he made that deal. We could win now though. Both have legit ace potential. I’d rather have 5 combined years of that promise than 2.5 years of deGrom.

I would tar and feather AA if he made that deal. We could win now though. Okay, did the math. I won't bore you with the details, but I'm glad I took the time to do it. The first time around I gave deGrom the value hitters get, the second time around I was a bit too harsh on pitcher's value; so the end result is gonna fall somewhere in between. Basically, deGrom would cost two top-50 prospects and a prospect that slots in somewhere between 18 and 30 on the Braves top-30 list, so something like Wright + Anderson + Demeritte. Still not a deal that I would do because I believe that the Braves aren't quite yet in a position to where trading prospects is advantageous. I say that because of the amount of cash that they'll have to spend after this year. If say, a year from now, after the Braves have spent their money and have their long-term pieces in place, and if getting a guy like MadBum, on the market, isn't an option, then I would be more open to the idea of trading a package like that, or better, for an ACE, if one were needed.

We still have so many things going right though it’s a little scary. What if Folty is injured now or is soon, or he and Newcomb both struggle as the innings pile up. I can’t believe either or both can hold up this way for a full season this well at this age. There’s a lot of other things too. I’m not willing to believe yet we’re going to hang in there all year. And nobody ever wants me to say differently—the day I do will be the day we start our slide.

The same things that are being said in this tread were being said in 1991. No ace, no playoff experience.etc. We had an ace and just didn't quite believe it yet in Smoltz, not to mention Glavine and Avery. It's pretty similar with Newk and Folty. As for experience, it matters, but not as much as some would have you believe. We need to improve our team, don't get me wrong, but it's not like we have nothing. Sure, we could still collapse, but I don't think so.
