The areas that former Braves president of baseball operations John Hart mentioned as three likely offseason needs – third base, bullpen, starting rotation -- still could be considered as such, but the new man in charge, general manager and vice president Alex Anthopoulos, pointed to another area that’s moved to the top of the priority list. Improving the defense.
“It’s not an easy one the way we’re currently set up,” Anthopoulos said Monday near the end of the first day of baseball’s annual Winter Meetings. “It’s going to take some creativity. But that is a goal, if we can do it. And maybe it’s just one area instead of two or three. But the backdrop of everything we’ve talked about is, what can we do to get ourselves better defensively. And that ultimately should help the entire (pitching) staff.
“Because we’re going to have to rely on these arms. I don’t know what’s going to happen – are we going to add a starter, a reliever and so on – but regardless whether we’re going with kids or established free agents, we still want to catch the ball behind them.”

AA is a smart dude. That last comment though gots me thinking that the Braves are gonna go heavy on Pollock. The one thing he’s got over all the other main FA OFers is that he’s a plus defender.

I’m not hating it as much as some of you are. AA took a flyer on a guy he has a long history with, respects, and believes still has something in the tank. Flaherty has been great, but if AA wanted some pop from the right side on the cheap, Bautista wasn’t a bad option. At the end of the day, I don’t believe he’s cost the Braves any games, so it’s a nonissue at this point.

He hit a helpful HR later then hit a huge HR today, other than that he's done zero. Overall he has a long way to long to go prove worthy of his current status.

When was that written?....and how has it changed since then? Dec 2017...... and some might argue that Batman is not there for a defensive statement since he hasn't played 3rd regularly since 2011....2 pretty big Es lately

It's very often hard to lay the blame for a game lost directly on a single person, but he has tried quite hard. I'll just point to his accumulation of a negative WAR value in a very short period of time, and the other measurables we have available to us. I'll also mention the whole "we're going to play good defense behind our young pitchers" philosophy.
Plus it's worth noting that I've made some comments about his performance, but I don't hate the guy... I just don't think he should have been made our starting 3rd baseman. I was fine with adding him as a RH power bat for the bench.

I think the best-case scenario from the Bautista situation would be that he rakes between now and the deadline, and the Braves are able to get some return from an AL club. I just don't think he's a NL player regardless of how he hits, because the cat simply can't play defense.

I’d love nothing more than to see him get rocked behind second again. I’m sad we don’t play the rangers.

He does however single-handedly keep the "Just for Men" facial hair color company in business.
