Interesting.....I doubt we have to give much money or any player we need in return... the guy is 34 years old and has only pitched 56 innings in the big leagues. He did have 4.31 xFIP last year. I don't see how this is a better option than Edgar Santana as a RHP from the pen, but oh well.

He does also give up 5 BB's per nine innings, but as long as he strikes dudes out we're good!

Never heard of Jay Jackson but hey, I never heard of Tyler Matzek at the time and that worked out all right. Not saying this guy is that good but you never know. With only 56 IP in the big leagues guess his arm should be fresh. I don;t know about his injury history
In Alex I trust. If this guy does not work out well, not much expended.
Guess they like the SO's per 9. That is the way the game is today, guess they think the BB's per 9 can be fixed. They all think they can fix that
I will be interested in what happens with Rich Rod this off season whom I think will help someone somewhere.
Same with Newcomb - doubt there will be room for him here next yr - someone will think they can correct him.

Matzek 11K/9 IP and 5.3 BB per 9 innings last year. That turned out OK. This dude averaged 12K/9 IP and 5.1 per 9 IP.
Probably a middle innings guy like Santana. I wouldn't mind getting Santana again. He was a decent middle innings guy. He was certainly better than Biddle, Carl Edwards Jr., Dayton, Tomlin, Greene etc.

Oh, well, cool, now we have a right handed Tyler Matzek.
Awesome!

Probably not but it would be nice. From what I've read, I just don't think he has the dominating stuff of a Matzek.

Has anybody mentioned that Riley was named to the All-MLB first team?
Freeman and Ozzie and Fried made second team.
The non tender deadline has been moved up to November 30th so guys who are non tendered have a better chance of signing somewhere before the lockout. We could have several non tenders, I'd bet on Arcia, Camargo and Newcomb, and possibly RR. What a farce it's going to be if we non tender RR.

Imma be pissed if we gave up Wilson for a guy we might non-tender.

Imma be pissed if we gave up Wilson for a guy we might non-tender. Even if we do try to retain him I can't imagine for the life of me that he would be willing to pitch for us next season. Surely he has told the organization to trade him before the 30th or non tender him because he doesn't want to be here. That would be my approach and I think most reasonable people would feel the same way. It's not like nobody else would want him, he's a better than average bullpen arm.
I wonder if his fate with us would have been different if he still looked like this:

One can't help but wonder. I don't get the hair thing with some of these players to begin with, but I wouldn't hold it against them, either.

I don’t get how some of these guys go out there in the heat of summer with all of that hair on their heads and faces. Seems like it would be brutally uncomfortable to me.

I had long hair until my late 30’s and there’s no way I could have pitched like that. I don’t care for it on pitchers and RRs is really bad, but I wouldn’t hold it against him if he’s ok with pitching like that. I find it almost impossible to believe that’s why we did him the way we did but it’s hard to figure out. He did have a bad September but not awful, and was still better than Webb in September. Webb has more electric stuff but does not have it harnessed yet.
