I wondered if they would try this. They always try and get that veteran presents guy.. One year with an option so we're not on the hook for long.

I like that he's staying but that seems like a lot to pay. I was thinking 2/$25M as he winds down his career. That being said using a couple of million from the the $11M they will save by not resigning Smyly isn't that big of a deal I guess.
I don't imagine they will resign Joc for $10M. I'm guessing they might renegotiate that down to about $5-6M. Joc could walk and get $2.5M and if someone else gave him $4M he'd come out ahead. Soler and Rosario are also free agents that will probably get $4-6M. They'd better resign Duvall for the $7M option (mutual) but Duvall may be able to get more than that. I get the feeling that he likes it in Atlanta and maybe he would sign for $7M. The Braves might have to ante up a bit more for 35 HR and 110 RBI.

$20 million is #2 or #3 starter money these days.

I like it, a lawt.
I was hoping the option was for $10 or $15M but it's also $20M, I wouldn't mind having him for two more years.
Fried, Morton, Anderson and hopefully Soroka is pretty formidable. I like the potential I've seen from Mueller, maybe we'll get lucky and he'll blossom. We'll be legit once Acuna returns, hopefully we retain Rosario beyond this year. I'd like to keep either Duvall or Soler, preferably Duvall. If we keep them all it's getting crowded, but I guess we may have the DH. And wifebeater. Ugh.
Of course we also have Smith as our closer for another season.

How many years should we extend Smith beyond 2022? Five or six years sound good?

I like the Morton sign, its well deserved and there is an option yr for 2023.
20 mil well, its not cheap but Charlie's performance is nothing cheap so in essence you have to spend.
In time we will have to take care of Fried. Anderson, they have time and he will be good health permitting.
The big dog for this off season is Freddie - I would like to see him kept for 6 yrs. Of course if another team offers 10/350 could you blame Freddie for taking it? Its crazy but it only takes one team.
10 yrs 400 mil for Will Smith. Okay, just joking, one more yr is enough. I am not off the deep end on this one but just wanted to have some humor.

Would anyone want to keep Smyly around for say, 6 mil for next yr? I say not really, just wonder if anyone would want him back at a reduced rate.
I would grade that sign as a C minus. He has had some good games but man, the HRS allowed and the ghastly games for 11 mil - I would hope that spot could be open for Mueller if he is ready. Mueller did show some good - some not being ready. Lets see in ST but he should not be traded. I do not think he will

Like or not I am assuming we are going to have the unmentionable one at some time or another. He should get a suspension of some kind but I do not know if they will ever get out of that contract till its over.
And we cannot count Pache out though you need insurance just in case he really struggles again. He is one prospect I think will get it in time health permitting guess its the speed and defense I like.

Nice to see this. Morton has had a great season for us. Now let's sign Freddie.

He would help the hitters confidence giving up those long ones in BP. Hey, you might be on to something. Any team that would offer him 11 mil again is a fool. I say its 75 pct chance he will be elsewhere next yr - anyplace other than here. But AA saw something that would make that head scratching move so - who knows. I am just glad we get Charlie back

Two things I like about Morton are his demeanor and the fact that he trusts his stuff. His demeanor never changes regardless of what's going on, and he sticks to his game plan. You're gonna have off nights, and you just have to accept that. These things are things that young guys can really benefit from. One young guy in particular that I'm thinking of is Kyle Wright. He's got the stuff. He just needs to chill and trust it. Charlie can help with that. IMO
