If it were the hair, why trade for him?

If it were the spin rate, don't they have an entire career of spin rate info to go by prior to pitchers using the sticky stuff?
Just asking for a friend.

Alex made the trade for the only guy he could seemingly work out a deal on.
Snit made the call to bury him on the depth chart which probably didn't sit well with RR, and things just deteriorated from there for a number of reasons.
Just an opinion..

That seems logical, but it raises a question I've wondered about for awhile--do those two ever talk about things in advance? One would assume so, but there's a lot of strange things that go on about how certain players are used or not used. RR is just one example. Did AA say hey, we're thinking about acquiring RR, what do you think about him, how would you use him? Or is it like a guy who buys a blue car for his wife without asking her if she like blue cars, he takes it home and she doesn't like it and he has to dump it?

That's funny, I haven't tried to figure out who might have interest in him, but the Faillies were the one team I thought he would be a good fit, he can play any of the infield positions and they've been shaky on their infield. I thought the Marlins might be an option too. Good luck to the kid, I hope he takes advantage of the opportunity and rakes like he's capable of doing, except when they play us.

He'll probably Duvall us every time we play them. That's why I made the joke we will trade for him mid-season when the Faillies are out of it, like we did with Adam.

Yes, we’ll trade Kyle Wright for him, send him to Gwinnett then turn him loose when the season ends.

Ozuna for Heyward ... Would you do it?
He's owed 2/$49M. Ozuna is about 3/$47M, assuming his 20-game suspension is worth $2M.
Assuming Liberty is able to chalk this up as the cost of shedding a bad investment, and not let it detrimentally impact signing Freeman and Rosario, than perhaps Freddie's extra motivated to stay from the return of his best bud. I'd even love to see them go the deferred-salary approach with Freddie to make it work ($5M/year for 5 years after end of contract).
Opening Day: 1. DH (R) Acuna 2. LF (L) Rosario 3. 1B (L) Freeman 4. 3B (R) Riley 5. 2B (S) Albies 6. C (R) d'Arneau 7. CF (R) Duvall 8. SS (R) Swanson 9. RF (L) Heyward

RF (L) Heyward I don't think the Cubs really want any part of Ozuna just my guess It will be a challenge for Alex to make any kind of deal for him Would I consider that deal from our point of view - maybe cause it would be better than just paying Ozuna to just go away. Maybe Heyward could be what he was in 2019 or 20 which was not too bad. And there are only two yrs left As for Freddie well, its a separate issue but my thoughts is he knows what his value is and got to wait and see what happens.

The Braves are going to keep Ozuna, launch a public relations effort against domestic violence, and use the Ozunas as a case in point......or maybe not.
The Cubs might do that deal. Ozuna's upside with the bat is much higher than Heyward's.

Heyward's is such a bad contract for his production, I could conceive of them considering it. Especially if they think there's less immediate animosity against Ozuna since he's not been on their team, so folks didn't have the intense initial reaction we did to the police report. Might be more willing to offer a second chance if he proves himself to be contrite.

I might not mind that deal, for one thing its probably in the best interest of the Braves to move on from Ozuna and he get a start somewhere else.
As for Heyward, well, its only for two more yrs. Per baseball reference he is owed 44 mil for 2 yrs not 49 so that is a little better
As for Heyward's play, his play from 2017 to 20 is not that bad, not good for his contract but was a 2 plus WAR guy from 17 to 19 and 1.5 in that shortened season - actually his best yr since he has been a Cub
You would have to hope he would not be as bad as he was last yr - if he can be close to league average in OPS plus I would accept that till the deal expires
Not ideal, but you do get rid of the unmentionable one

Yeah, contracts confuse me. I like Spotrac because it gives all the details, and they say he has $2.5M pet year in signing bonus, on top of his $22M salary. Hence, $44.5 + $44.5 = $49. Whether that's still owed, or if the Cubs already paid his full signing bonus, I have no idea. www.spotrac.com/mlb/chicago-cubs/jason-heyward-7231/

I would rather have Heyward than wife beater if we can't do any better than Heyward. There really aren't that many options of players with similar bad contracts. A lot of the bad contracts are guys with 5 years left or $80M or crap like that. David Price was one I mentioned the other day that could work for us, but there are very limited options that would work for us. I like being out of it all in 2 years rather than 3 years. Heyward has a .791 career OPS against RHP and .645 against LHP. It's hard to imagine using a guy as a platoon player with what we'd be paying him, but if we sat him against LHP he'd still play two thirds of the games and would be a great defensive addition in late innings of games he didn't start. His biggest issue is relatively small nagging injuries. He had a bunch of those this year, as he has during his entire career. When he's healthy he's a productive player, when he's playing through injuries he's terrible. So it's a crapshoot in that regard.
We have no idea what kind of player wife choker will be the rest of his career, I don't think it's wise to assume he'll be the player we had in 2020. He's had several bad seasons in the big leagues. So I hope our management isn't afraid to move him because they don't want to lose his production, it's not a given it will be elite like it was in 2020. I wouldn't be totally surprised if they try the whole big PR scheme and try to say he's healed and a better man now please give him a chance, that takes years to accomplish. I want him gone, we've always stayed away from players with big personal clouds hanging over their character, let's not make an exception here, trade him or work out a payment settlement please.
