They need to make Flaherty throw a lot of pitches tomorrow. As good as their pen is, the sooner we can get him out of the game the better for us.

The funny thing is that old school thinking says that you go with your best starter in Game One. But analytics favored Soroka as a dominant road starter. Snit finally follows the computer geeks instead of his gut and this is where we are. SMH The splits were not that different to make a dumb call like that. To make that call Soroka would have had to have been worse than everybody else at home, which he wasn't. He could have gotten the game 1 home start and the game 4 road start just like Keuchel as well. Nice attempt to try and turn this on those of us who sometimes take exception to Snit's decisions, but it didn't work.

Plain and simple, in my opinion, that’s the single biggest mistake snit has made PAST starting DK game one. They should’ve got Swarzak in place of Martin if they had no intention of using JT.

If starting Soroka only once was the decision Snit came to because of analytics, then he should never consult analytics again because he has no idea about how to use them. I predicted weeks ago that we wouldn't start Fried because we would use him as another lefty in the pen, and he would get in several games. No way were we going to go with only one left hand reliever.

I agree 100%. Once Keuchel was named the starter for game #1, Fried should have been chiseled in for game 4 and we should have stuck to that--it's even moreso considering we had Newcomb to do the very thing we used Fried for in relief twice. He brought Fried in to pitch the 7th in game one despite Newcomb sitting out there. It did "work" that Fried came in and got people out in his two relief appearances, but it kept him from being the game 4 starter like he should have been. I mean the fact is Newcomb has also gotten people out in the series, but he's been used as our #2 lefty out of the pen. I think it really boils down to Snitker not being sure how he was going to use Fried, and when the opportunity posed itself in game 1 that we needed a lefty from the pen he felt more comfortable using Fried. I think we should have relied on Newcomb to do his job as the #1 lefty out of the pen. He was good in September no reason to think he couldn't get it done and save Fried to start.
Newcomb's September in 10 appearances:
1.93 ERA 1.07 WHIP .188 BAA
The one thing I do disagree with is I think Blevins should have been added instead of Swarzak or Julio--with the thinking that Fried would start game 4, that way we'd have two lefties in the pen still. I'm certain that Fried could have still started game 4 in he hadn't pitched in game 2. But if Blevins was on the roster then Newcomb (#1) and Blevins (#2) could have been our lefty pen.

Not even to mention that Newk was our best pitcher last NLDS and has been great this NLDS. I just don’t see giving the 5th or 6th best pitcher on your roster, the most innings. But it’s a dead horse at this point. And yes, keuchel is the 5th or 6th best, and if he seeks 20M a year, in FA, everyone should laugh in his face and hang up

Ok I'm tired of punching myself in the nuts over and over about the games we've already played in this series, I'm moving on now and just looking forward to game 5 and new reasons to punch myself in the nuts. Wait, I mean I'm looking forward to game 5 and a triumphant victory for us!
GO BARVES!!!

By that same thinking, we've also seen Duvall swing and miss hundreds of breaking balls from RHP. But they're two of the only guys that are hitting at all. Leaving Nick and Joyce and McCant in the 5, 6 and 7 spots isn't working either. Personally I have no criticisms no matter what Snitker chooses to do with who plays and where they bat, he doesn't have much to choose from right now. I have plenty of issues with the pitching choices, but with the hitters from 3rd on down it's pfffffffffffffffffttttttttt.

Who has more pressure? Braves or Cardinals?

Braves... 100%
They have a solid history of fail in general.
They have a solid history of Cardinal playoff fail.
They were the favorites..

I'd throw in the knowledge that Flaherty is pitching and has been deGrom like and more since the All Star break, and we all know despite his recent stellar outing Folty is still a possibly an unstable volatile situation.
I'm not giving up though because we did get to Flaherty a little in game 2, maybe the pressure will get him out of his comfort zone. Plenty of pressure for everybody involved on both sides.
