Piss-poor planning, huh? Again, why lie about it? That's what I don't understand. If it were the money, then the Braves are lost in the 80's, so surely that's not the reason. I don't know how much AA works, and I don't care. He's done a shltty job, especially for the last 6 months or so.

I'm all for "see what we've got", but we knew what we had in the bullpen; a sore-armed closer and a bunch of question marks. Minter has done absolutely nothing to gain any faith from anyone in this organization, and didn't do anything last year, either. The bullpen was an obvious need going into the off-season, and we didn't do a damn thing about it. At the end of the day, THIS is what pisses me off, and is why I don't have trust or confidence in AA. Absolutely agree...to me the biggest concern last season was the bullpen and the fact that they did nothing to upgrade or improve the pen has to be the biggest disappointment of the off season

I'm not so sure that AA left his other job and came here in some elaborate scheme to defraud the fanbase and collude with a player to line their pockets with ill-gotten gains.
That seems to amount to career suicide, and I find it highly unlikely. It seems at times though as if portions of the fanbase feel that way.... usually after a series sweep. Personally I get frustrated as well but as I usually do I allow a little bit of time for out GM's before I pronounce a final judgement. There are so many things we do not know, and maybe just maybe, someone like AA is privy to a bit more info than we have. Maybe his pitching coach and scouts told him we could work with what we have until the rotation dialed in and then we could look at making some moves on others to the pen. Maybe the consensus was be really careful with the money as we want to lock up our move-forward talent base before we spend in FA, and we didn't know we could get Acuña and Ozzie for very team friendly deals. Maybe we do now want to sign Kimbrel but can't do it yet because the value of the draft pick is figured into the cost calculation, and with our situation the value of that pick is very high and could be impactful for several years.
I've got the same philosophy here I had with Coppy... which is to be patient enough to let them work a plan, albeit a shorter amount of time because AA inherited a team that is closer than what Coppy had: Shorter amount of time, but 18 games is a bit too short, eh?

True enough, but what are the odds of a draft pick being a huge loss, especially in the next 2 or 3 years? Look at Wright and Allard. Neither is ready yet and may never be. In the meantime, Kimbrel is an elite closer who is only 30, so the odds are high that he continues to produce at an elite level. Closers like him don't grow on trees, and his presence makes every other guy in the bullpen better.

Look at the pick as an asset. Waters, Jenista, and Muller are quite the assets in a trade no? We get one more. This farm is going to be bare in short order, just look at what’s in Rome at the moment. When all the money is spent and all the prospects are traded then we become the Cubs not the Astros.

Wright might have the stuff, does not show it now but Allard, for sure he has a well below MLB fastball in today's game Allard is a more questionable prospect and he showed nothing at all when he had his chance here And I will reiterate -- Acuna, Ozzie and Johan were indeed Wren's signees. The only move that Coppy made that was impressive was the Shelby Miller trade getting Dansby and Ender As for Folty and Fried, dam its about time and we have to hope that Folty is not damaged goods, he was not good his first rehab start in Gwinnett

We really are not that horrible after 18 games, we are 9-9 so I am not taking my frustration on this yr alone Its at the level above Alex that much of the fan base & I am talking about not just this board but generally, those who live in the local area are tired of this staid corporate ownership that we have had with two owners I trust Alex far more than Hart & Coppy after they way they tore it up, and of course not AA would not sabotage his good reputation in baseball he is a real baseball man, not a cheater who was overmatched in his job the way Coppy was As for what AA was told by scouts, coaches, etc we never know but last yrs pen was not horrific and Sobotka did look good with his stuff at the end of the yr. Minter did show signs of having close potential, to date they have struggled Had the competition in the division not been so aggressive in closing the gap and making moves there would be less panic - don't you think that is fair to say

Who knows how well Kimbrel can pitch right now with no ST & what kind of baseball shape is he in now
And you all know about his location and post season issues late last yr, Boston won it all in spite of him and his struggles last post season
No immediate fix now except for the in house guys to do better

Might as well try Luke in the closer role, he is the pen's hottest hand and he got the final two outs today
He bailed out the very disappointing AJ Minter - its time AJ is sent back to the minors or something is done with him cause he cannot do the job
Luke was maligned by many but to his credit he is doing the job better than anyone else around here

Seems like they've both yet to pitch? I didn't think Gohara's issue was supposed to be all that serious ... But he's done nothing. Same with O'Day.

I wanna say ... That last AB Webb just pitched to Myers ... Brilliant.
I think it may go unnoticed, but the pitching IQ was off the charts.
Go watch his 0.2 IP. He had a very deliberate cadence. Comes set. Deep breath. One-one-thousand, two-one-thousand ... Very deliberate.
Now, what did he do to Myers? Drop a couple 82 MPH curveballs on him, with that same slow, deliberate cadence after coming set.
How about pitch 3? One-one-thous -- HERE IT COMES!!! 95mph gas, down the middle, with Myers timing completely messed up from the cadence change. All he could do was watch it for strike-3. He had no shot. The pitch was on it's wat, and he couldn't start his load because of what Webb did.
An absolute brilliant series.

I say we name AA executive of 2020 for hanging onto Webb and bringing him in right when we need him!
