This post of the Iced Earth heavy metal band is made with sadness as the founder and leader of the band, Jon Schaffer, was arrested for his part in the Capitol riots. I certainly don't advocate violence and this is in no way endorsing his actions. The state of our country with the hate and intolerance deeply pains and saddens me. The Eagle surely is crying.

More from Iced Earth ( as good as many of the popular heavy metal bands just not as well known)

When Billy Joe Shaver passed away I instinctively felt like that was the stopping point for me in this tread since I'm going to be taking some time away from the internet. But I got to thinking about a few things. About 4 years ago my wife and I were driving home from a concert and I said to her "do you realize that ALL the musicians we go see are in their 50's, 60's and 70's and already playing fewer shows? Pretty soon we won't have anybody to go see." (Other than Jason Isbell, who I won't pay money towards anymore because of his ever increasing and vocal over the top liberal behaviors and attitudes.)
Then about a month later I stumbled on Colter Wall, and went to see him live, and Tyler Childers opened the show. So we had two new young performers we liked. Then Sturgill finally grew on me, and I found Arlo McKinley and a few other guys like Benjamin Tod. And now I've got another new one, a guy I started paying some attention to a year or so ago. He released his first full length album in August of 2020, and it was a real gem. So I'm going to post some of his stuff here and call it the end of the tread for me. If anybody likes any of this I encourage you to check out that whole album because it's pretty sweet. I've always had a weakness for a person who can take an acoustic guitar, write great songs and then go up on a stage by himself and hold people's attention and entertain them, because it is not an easy thing to do.
I recall an old saying that when an old door closes a new one opens, a line that actually appears in a song on this guy's debut album. So with that encouraging thought I'll say thank you to Casper Allen and all the other young folks coming along who can continue this genre of music, you've all given me hope that more new young and very talented musicians will come along and keep this style of music alive for the rest of my life. Just please stay off the drugs and pills and alkeehall brothers and sisters!!!
AND STAY RAW!!!
Peace.
