They wanted and got their man. This is how I see the NL East now
1 Nationals 2 Phillies (Wild Card) 3 Mets 4 Braves 5 Marlins (at least we can't finish last as long as they are in the division
Look at the additions they made, Segura, JTR, Mc Cutchen and now Harper. Not bad
They also added some pen help w/Robertson
Now they do have to get some pitching behind Nola and Arrieta, maybe better work from Velazquez or Eichoff.
None of this is good for us but have to give credit for teams who actually make moves to get better and try to win
Lets see what happens with Acuna JR and Albies in 3 yrs, - my prediction is they do become superstars and will be moved for prospects so enjoy them while you can
And note that Freeman runs out in when, 2021?
The competition got better and our FO had cold feet all winter so the suits get what they deserve

I think the Sillies regret 13 years.

Phillies got the man they wanted but Bryce didn’t end up where he wanted. This deal may work out for a couple of seasons but it’s got disaster written all over it. So glad we weren’t serious players for his “services”.

Is it just me or would 5/225 have been a better deal? I'm sure the Dodgers were offering up something along those lines. I mean, he'd still only be 31, and who knows what he could get then, especially considering how great he is.

The problem is no player is ever going to take fewer dollars, and it would never make sense to do that anyway. If someone was offering $330M, and obviously the Faillies were all along, you can't take $225 from someone else and then risk getting badly injured and playing horrible for several years and killing your value.
This is the ultimate example of how much pro athletes are willing to whore themselves out for money, there's no way he wanted to play there and he's going to absolutely hate it. But at least he got the biggest contract ever.

It's understandable, plus the tax hit is less the longer you spread it out. Sure would be a nice problem to have, no?

More affordable in his prime for the Phils but they’ll pay the same rate when he is heading into negative WAR territory age wise a la Pujols. He's willing to be the Phils albertross

I know most of you dislike power rankings, expert predictions, and the like. So what are your thoughts on PECOTA after the Harper signing?

Harpers contract broke down. 26 yrs - 11.5M 27-35 yrs - 27.5M 36-38 yrs - 23.5M
The way baseball is going, that's a pretty good gamble for a team who looked like they weren't going anywhere and can afford the risk. He'll at least hit them a lot of homeruns in that little league park. I hope his defense bites him in the arse.

A guy who has already had injury issues throughout his career.
There's no way this can be broken down to make me think it was wise in any way.
This is going to be by far the most laughed at contract in the entire history of sports.
