Verified account @dobrienatl #Braves' Alex A said won't know trade market for a few more weeks, but that some the #Braves talked about in July should still be there and others will likely have joined the pool of talent available.

David O'Brien @dobrienatl Alex A. said #Braves' first priorities are to find a corner OF (RF or LF, since Acuña could move over to RF if need be) and a catcher to pair w/ Flowers. Said they're open to bring back Markakis and Suzuki if deal can be reached, that they'd be happy going into season w/ them.
I'd say in spite of this Nick at Nite is gone

Pitching coach Chuck Hernandez had been dismissed by the Braves, all other coaches back on 2-year deals

Bringing Nick back would be a big mistake. We need a power bat in the outfield, so unless they package Ender in a deal for that bat, Nick has to be out.........IMO.

Grant McAuley @grantmcauley Grant McAuley Retweeted 680 The Fan & 93.7FM #Braves' 2018 Opening Day payroll was $118M (per Cot's Baseball Contracts). Prior to arbitration, Atlanta has $51.2M committed to Freddie Freeman ($21.35M), Julio Teheran ($11.16M), Darren O'Day ($9M), Ender Inciarte ($5.7M) and Tyler Flowers ($4M) for 2019.

Grant McAuley @grantmcauley When I got started covering baseball in 2005-2006, the #Braves moved on from Leo Mazzone. There was a lot of discussion about the role/value of a pitching coach. Tim Hudson said in an interview perhaps the most important responsibility of a pitching coach was to massage egos.

David O'Brien @dobrienatl Alex A. also didn't come out and say it but made it pretty clear #Braves unlikely to pursue biggest-ticket FAs. "I don't know that value will be there for us in free agency." Trades likely to make more sense than FA for Braves. No Bryce Harper?Of this I have never had a doubt. Going all in on a single player for that sort of money is not in our DNA. We will continue to accumulate prospects that we can develop, get useful years from while at controlled cost, and then move for more prospects. We will round out the team with "value" choices from FA and/or trades for players at a reasonable cost. I doubt we will ever see a Harper or Muchado here.

From the AP-- AA had to talk Snitker into firing Hernandez. I didn't remember that Snitker had been our bullpen coach either (1985 and 88-90) But time to be optimistic and hope next 2 years of his long tenured wisdom dugout camaraderie and players love for him can translate into continued Braves success

Sometimes a nice manager like Snit may get a little too close to fellow coaches and/or players and let "loyalty" cloud judgement. I don't know how much of a difference pitching coaches actually make but people who know a lot more than I do about running baseball teams sure do hire and fire them quite often, and it is results oriented. Results.. regardless of if those results come from proper ego massaging or actual coaching. Huddy may have been speaking for himself, but I can't imagine that pitching coaches notice things like issue with mechanics or suggesting moving around on the rubber... being more aggressive.. using a certain pitch more or less, etc.

That's just lip service I think, trying to be respectful towards Nick, but I see 0% chance we bring him back. I certainly don't want to. The guy had a great season until August, but we can do a lot better than him and we should.

Nick's a great guy by all accounts, and he had a nice season, but like you said, we can and should do better (sorry if I don't feel sympathy for a guy who's just wrapped up a $44 million dollar contract). I'd just about as soon bring Pache up way too early as to bring Nick back. He should have been a guy to count on in the NLDS, but he was the farthest thing from it, and his 2nd half was pretty bad........

Happy about Snit. Thrilled about the prospects of a new pitching coach. Hopefully we will see an emphasis on the importance of attacking the strike zone.

I would have hoped by now that they would have figured it out.
