UP NEXT:
Washington RHP Jeremy Hellickson (2-0, 3.20 ERA), slated to start for Washington on Sunday, had no decision and a 4.11 ERA in his first three starts but has a 1.30 ERA in his past five outings.
Atlanta RHP Anibal Sanchez (1-0, 3.00 ERA) allowed four runs and five hits Tuesday against the New York Mets in his first start after he missed 37 games with a right hamstring strain.
Freeman will attempt to extend his recent success when the Braves and Nationals conclude a four-game series at SunTrust Park on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. ET. The Atlanta slugger will attempt to extend his streak when he matches up against Jeremy Hellickson, a veteran right-hander who surrendered a homer against the Braves first baseman last year. Atlanta will start Anibal Sanchez, who has posted a 2.11 ERA over 23 career appearances (22 starts) against Washington.

Welp we'll see how Snitker's game plan will unfold in this game. Will these guys even get a chance to pitch with Sanchez on the mound? ^^^ Click for all the great comments. This team's been resilient so far. Lets hope they can chop it out.

Defense at third is way too important than taking a chance on Hanley. We'd probably be better off at attempting Freeman at third again. Then the only position would be is put him in left field and trade Inciarte. And again I'd rather take my chances with good defense and Inciarte having a good second second half or from here on out. Just looked up his dWAR when he played left field in 2015. 92 games and -2.5 dWAR. We'd be stupid to sign him.

Yeah.... not going to be too cool if Winkler and Viz don't even get a chance today.... and if Snit is worried about a pitcher going back to back days, then he better hope Sanchez gives him 7 innings.

Not much from Braves lore for this date... 1978 The Braves and the Cubs tie a major league record, using 14 hurlers in a single game. Each team uses seven pitchers when Chicago beats Atlanta at Wrigley Field, 8-6. But some pretty interesting stuff from around MLB.... 1888 The first publication of Ernest L. Thayer's poem Casey at the Bat appears in the San Francisco Examiner. The work is originally published under the pen name 'Phin', because the poet feels embarrassed by what he considers to be bad verse and decides to keep his identity a secret, until others come forward to claim the work to be their own. 1902 Cardinal right-hander Mike O'Neil hits the first pinch-hit grand slam in major league history. The hurler's ninth inning blast off Beaneater Togie Pittinger proves to be the difference in the Redbirds' 11-9 victory over Boston at South End Grounds. (Just noticed I didn't put the Beaneaters where they belong...in case the rain persists today, here's a little history of our roots in Boston that you can check out...www.beaneatersbaseball.com/club-history/)1932 Tony Lazzeri blasts a grand slam to complete his natural cycle, with his four hits being accomplished in sequential order: single, double, triple, home run. This rare and amazing feat is overshadowed by Yankee teammate Lou Gehrig hitting four home runs in the same game, and the announcement of long-time Giants manager John McGraw's retirement on the same day. (THAT is a busy day!!!)

I highly doubt Sanchez gives us 7. Five is probably a stretch. Not feeling confident about this one today and even though I would have been happy with a split at the beginning of the series, it will be a huge disappointment after winning the first two.

I would have liked to see Winkler or Viz yesterday, but the fact is, the Braves didn't hit a lick, so it's probably just as well. There's no way of knowing if they'd have kept the gnats in check or not anyway. It was just a tough loss. What can you really say?

This team's been resilient so far. Lets hope they can chop it out. That's all fine and dandy BUT maybe there is a blowout either way today and they won't be needed. Then it's a coulda...woulda...shoulda...situation. Managers today seem to manage based on what MIGHT happen tomorrow. I think many managers today sometimes "forfeit", for lack of a better word, an extra innings game today based on what they might need tomorrow.

I think it’s asinine to manage for what might happen tomorrow when you’re in a tied freaking game in extra innings. Just asinine. Do all you can to win that game and worry about what happens or doesn’t happen tomorrow when it gets here. We weren’t hitting, but another inning or two and one guy might have popped one or several guys might have woke up and got us a run. Now if we get blown out today we got stupid Snitkered again.

Personally I was shocked.. we get a complete game the day before and then have a short bullpen during a 14 inning game the next... This is pretty perplexing.

I get that he’s a players manager and that’s great but he consistently does this stupid stuff. Still not sold on the whole package.
