UP NEXT Braves: Brandon McCarthy (3-0) has allowed only two homers in 21 2/3 innings this season. He's 1-2 career against the Reds in four games with an 8.78 ERA.
Reds: Tyler Mahle (1-3) has lost his last three starts, allowing 12 runs and 25 hits in 15 innings. He's making his first career appearance against the Braves.
TRAINER'S ROOM Braves: Jose Bautista has joined Triple-A Gwinnett as he works on his swing. Bautista, 37, signed a one-year deal April 18 and reported to extended spring training. He'll make $1 million if added to the 40-man roster. Snitker said he'll play third base when he joins the club. "I don't think he'll need that much (time)," Snitker said. "He's in such great game and game-ready shape."
Reds: RH reliever David Hernandez is throwing 20 to 25 pitches during his rehab appearances for Triple-A Louisville. He started the season on the DL with a sore right shoulder.

Braves recalled Max Fried and designated Miguel Socolovich.
Don't know what to expect from Fried in the pen except one thing: he'll walk the first batter he faces.

Well, walking the first batter is a given, but maybe he won't walk the second. Speaking of walks, if Sam Freeman doesn't get it together soon, he's gotta go. It's looking like the "Chicago Debacle" was NOT a one-off for him.

I think Freeman's just overworked. Saw an article today where they are going to scale back his workload.
The walks are beyond alarming. Here's the staff walks per game breakdown so far ... 6,5(11 inn),4,10,6,6,2,7(10 inn),0,7,2,3,1,10,6,10(10 inn), 4,3,6,4,8. I can't believe they've walked 10 in a game THREE TIMES in 21 games. That's unreal and unacceptable.

Weather looks OK for the 7-10 PM time period. An upper low just south of Cincinnati will keep things cloudy and unsettled tonight with just some widely scattered very light showers or intermittent light drizzle at times. Very little accumulation (maybe several hundredths of an inch) is expected. The Braves need to come out with a passion tonight. Considering the loss in game 1, a split would be OK but 3 of 4 would be great. Anything less than a split would be extremely disappointing.

Saw a blurb on Twitter this morning, in the last 23 innings a relief pitcher started, 9 of the innings the first batter was hit or walked. Seems low to me, but maybe it’s true, I’m too effin’ lazy to check. Damn, we need some decent smilies around here.

hey winnie.....Braves picking up right where they left off last night. Poor throws, poor pitching, sigh. Thanks, I had bucknor there earlier because I thought he was behind the plate tonight, thought he was at first last night, but maybe I'm nuts. 3 to zip now with two outs.

Worst friggin' team out there and we're making them look like contenders for the division title.

Why is it we can never beat the teams we are supposed to beat?
