I am superstitious with baseball. I'm pretty sure Flaherty hasn't gotten a hit since we announced it was our intent to call Bautista up as soon as possible and hand him the starting job. Flaherty was leading the league in BA at the time. There's that, and the law of averages! I think the real problem is that Bautista is a cancer, he's killing the clubhouse, we haven't looked like the same team since we signed him.

I know the law of averages and all thaf, but you have a team several games over .500 and leading their league in hitting... Camargo fresh off the DL and abck with the team...
... and you trade for some old guy who's batted .203 and .234 the past two seasons and almost immediately announce you're going to bring him up and give him a job that someone else has done nothing to lose yet..
Bad mojo

Bad mojo I do completely agree with that.

If we can get Kemp type or better production from Joey Bats and Acuna lives up to the hype we could have a really good season!

There is still time for improvement with Bautista. Unfortunately the numbers so far in a small sample size aren't looking good. I felt he had something left to give and that he would help this team and hopefully that is still true. Flaherty was good to start the season and Camargo has been since then. If Bautista can't cut it, Camargo and Flaherty might be able to pick up the slack. www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=bautis001jos

Camargo is very undervalued. That kid can play. Don't sleep on Johan guys.

Camargo is very undervalued. That kid can play. Don't sleep on Johan guys. Been saying the same thing. We don't need no stinking Bautista. We could have used his bat in his prime but that ship has sailed. With Riley coming along so well, I'd rather see Camargo play and Flaherty be the utility guy, let's find out how good Camargo can or can't be. If Dansby doesn't snap out of his funk soon I'd give Camargo a few games at SS too. Dansby is 4 for his last 32 and looking a lot like he did during his bad times last year. I'm just not convinced with him yet, his inconsistency is frustrating. But that was a nice pick up on the swipe grab and DP today, at least he's still playing well on defense.

I always predicted that Camargo and Swanson would be competing for the utility job. Both of their successes in the past have been BABIP fueled. Here's to both proving me wrong and Camargo holding down the fort at 3B until Riley arrives.

I'm all for analytics, but sometimes it gets ridiculous.

I'm not convinced with Dansby either. His stats on the season aren't all that bad though. If you replace Dansby, you are replacing him with Flaherty. That could pay off short term given hot streaks. However, Dansby should be the better player long term.

Well some players have been very productive with a league average BABIP. Some players are able to sustain a higher than league average BABIP. What I'm trying to get at is if your BABIP is .360+, I doubt that your batting average is sustainable.

Wouldn't BABIP naturally be higher for guys who make a lot of contact, though? ie, don't strike out very much.
