Chop Oñ @13chopon13 Orlando Arcia has a 136 wRC+ and is a plus defender. His current contract is for 3 years and a total amount of $7.3M ($2.43M per year).
Dansby Swanson has a 114 wRC+ and is an elite defender. His current contract is for 7 years and a total amount of $177M ($25.29M per year).
AA is a genius. The amount of value Arcia is producing in comparison to his contract is insane. While Dansby is the better defensive SS, Arcia has been better offensively and is still a plus defensive SS. The #Braves need to do whatever it takes to ensure AA remains in Atlanta for the rest of his career. #ForTheA

I haven’t paid any attention to the other big money feee agent SS’s, except Trea Turner, last time I looked he was having a terrible season and I heard he’s been booed by his adoring fans already.

Near Charleston or Goose Creek area? Spent plenty a summer in Charleston as a kid with its debilitating humidity and the everpresent smell of pulp mills. Great memories...

Dansby last 6 games is having a rough spell. 44% K rate! (his defense is still good with just 3 errors on the year): 25 PA, 23 AB, 2 H, .087 AVG, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 11 K, .290 OPS, .987 FLD% for year
On the other hand Arcia is thriving. 16% K rate. (he also has just 3 errors on the year but in less playing time): 25 PA, 23 AB, 9 H, .391 AVG, 1 2B, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 2 BB, 4 K, 1.005 OPS, .984 FLD% for year

Here's another highly touted SS (for good reason) who is floundering this season. It's amazing how well we're making out at SS while some of these top SS's struggle.
Willy Adames:
.207/.289/.394/.683
What Arcia is doing so far shows how important a player's confidence can be. I get that concept when Bobby Cox and Snitker insist on playing a guy every day even when they're going really bad. But I don't like having zero give and take with it. You can sit a guy here and there or for a couple of days and talk with him and let him know you still believe in him. You could move someone around in the order and let him know he's still your guy. That total confidence day in and day out also doesn't work with every player and you have to recognize when it's not working and adjust. Without breaking the guy's confidence, which wouldn't be very hard to do. And at times you can actually break someone's confidence by playing them every day when they're clearly lost.
It also makes me wonder why at the same time there are always certain players who we let them clearly know we do not have faith in them. How can you do that to someone, but keep them on the team and expect them to perform when they finally get an AB here or there......knowing that they can see how much faith you're showing in other guys, leaving them to wonder why they aren't getting a similar chance? We obviously are keenly aware how important confidence is, but then we also just blatantly say "eff you" to some of our guys. Like Hilliard right now. Who knows what you might get if you showed him the love we've shown Arcia? Hilliard has shown a lot of potential, but we've just said hey screw you.

1-0 Nats. Shuster getting hit. Only out a sac fly caught at the wall in center field. He recovers to get two routine fly balls.

They only score one run in the first. Shuster's pitches look slow and straight as an arrow and thigh high and near the middle; not a good combination so far. Maybe he'll get it going this next inning.
