Here's another highly touted SS (for good reason) who is floundering this season. It's amazing how well we're making out at SS while some of these top SS's struggle.
Willy Adames:
.207/.289/.394/.683
What Arcia is doing so far shows how important a player's confidence can be. I get that concept when Bobby Cox and Snitker insist on playing a guy every day even when they're going really bad. But I don't like having zero give and take with it. You can sit a guy here and there or for a couple of days and talk with him and let him know you still believe in him. You could move someone around in the order and let him know he's still your guy. That total confidence day in and day out also doesn't work with every player and you have to recognize when it's not working and adjust. Without breaking the guy's confidence, which wouldn't be very hard to do. And at times you can actually break someone's confidence by playing them every day when they're clearly lost.
It also makes me wonder why at the same time there are always certain players who we let them clearly know we do not have faith in them. How can you do that to someone, but keep them on the team and expect them to perform when they finally get an AB here or there......knowing that they can see how much faith you're showing in other guys, leaving them to wonder why they aren't getting a similar chance? We obviously are keenly aware how important confidence is, but then we also just blatantly say "eff you" to some of our guys. Like Hilliard right now. Who knows what you might get if you showed him the love we've shown Arcia? Hilliard has shown a lot of potential, but we've just said hey screw you.
I call it the Camargo treatment. Now, that has obviously worked out for us, but what did it do to him? Also, if we knew how we were going to treat Camargo, why didn't we trade him when his value was at its peak? That whole thing and how it played out still doesn't make sense to me.

Olson, sac fly,,,, gets Acuna over to 3rd base. Not a sac fly unless run scores.
