No one could say we don’t have veteran presents. No one could say we don’t have veteran presents. No veteran (except my husband who was a veteran) ever gave me a present. View AttachmentSorry, couldn't help myself.

Dansby Swanson is hitting .229 with a .653 OPS and 10 HR. Orlando Arcia is hitting .225 with a .626 OPS and 12 HR. Their defensive stats are very similar. Dansby's WAR is about 1 higher. WRC+ and OPS+ are about 10 points higher. Dansby AAV $25.29M Orlando AAV $2.43M I felt like Dansby was worth about half of what he got paid, I’m so glad we aren’t the ones that made that mistake. But crazed owners will keep throwing these insane contracts at guys no matter how frequently they take major financial hits. But it is a bit of a conundrum moving forward if we’re really satisfied with Arcia as our SS. He’s played good defensively, but still has a career OPS of .670 and it’s only that high because we somehow lucked into two seasons of .740 OPS from him. It makes it harder to remember that he sucks as a hitter. He’s cheap, we owe him $2M for 2025 and we have a club option of $2M for 2026. Do we have any SS in the system? I dont pay attention anymore. Since we have to focus on SP a bit we might be stuck with Arcia for two more years. It’s not a disaster but we could do better without it being a huge ordeal.

Yea I was rally hoping we would get Adames a few years ago. As far as internal options we have Nacho, who obviously needs more time, and a 17 year old named Jose Perdomo. He has great potential. Those guys seem to be in play for 2026 or later. Nacho could be in play next year. I was hoping we would get Isiah Kiner-Falefa (he's related to Ralph Kiner!) at the deadline.

Alvarez isn't going to cut it as a SS IMO. They have Jose Perdormo who might be great but he's not projected until 2029. He's 17 and in rookie ball. They have another young player in Benitez but he's still 2-3 years away and will probably translate better at another position anyway. I don't really see him being much more than a bench/utility player. It would be easier to live with Arcia if those around him didn't also suck.

Our starting OF next year will be Acuna/Harris/Soler for the bulk, and I’m sure we’ll sign Kelenic cheap for at least 2or 3 years as a 4th OFer and a Laureano/Duvall/Anderson type RH bat OFer. So we’re cutting some corners there too.
I wouldn’t sign Kelenic at all, I am not impressed to say the least. But Snitwit raved about him in spring trading while he was going 1 for 33 and forcing us to sign Duvall. He’s one of Snit’s baseball player guys so he’s going to be around. It’s great that he’ll be cost effective, but sucking offensively should be more important. And he does suck and it’s a good bet he will never be a decent big league hitter.

Zach Neto, the Angels SS would be a great fit but a pipe dream. He’s 23, cost controlled and a 3 WAR player so far this year. Seems to be decent with the glove, hitting .260 with 19 HRs and 22 SB, 118 wRC+

I’m no fan of any advanced metrics for measuring players defensively, they’ve always seemed highly questionable. They never like Freddie Freeman, for example. Riley is a great defensive player. These goofy stats sure look wonky.

And whoever is the mastermind that decided we should go after Murphy over Contreras and make such an expensive effort to get Kelenic should offer to jump off of a very high mountain. I’d like to know who is responsible for those scouting gaffes. Was it Snitker or scouts or both?
I’m going to need answers to those questions and a few others before I’ll pay $800 to go down there for two games again. K thx.

It was a bonus to get a hit, rbi or HR when you really didn't expect much. Much more hurtful this year with our offense.
