I did find this!
Gonzalez laughed it off with a decent comeback, but he did fail to mention he was a huge part of the Marlins winning the World Series in 2003 so he actually earned his ring.

Trade Acuna for Ohtani!
Angels probably not signing him long term anyways. Angels get an elite talent at a reasonable price of $17M through 2028. Braves get an elite talent and can add another $25M/yr they would have used for Fried to the loss of Acuna's $17M to sign Ohtani to a 12yr/$500M long term deal.
Note: This contract must be agreeable to Ohtani before the trade takes place. I'm not giving up Acuna for 1 year of Ohtani!
Just do it! GO BRAVES!!!
12yr/$500M??? So you want to pay him $41.6M at age 41? Are you new here? Suggestions like that could very well get you censored and/or "ignored" on this bored. I don't want to but that's probably what it would take. He's basically 2 players in one so $20-25M for each aspect of his game isn't out of the question. You may be able to go 10/$450M. Of course it's all fun speculation and I never expect anything like this to happen.

It was a crazy twitter post from somebody. Ah, well......that would have been nice to know. I just found it automatically believable because there's been some things brewing about his winter league play this offseason already.......

I stopped paying attention to little details because all sports are different, but is it legal for us to "negotiate" a contract agreement with Ohtani while he's still with the Angels? For some reason I'm thinking that's "tampering" or something like that. I'm sure it still happens even if it's illegal, it's just done behind doors and all other means to keep it hidden.
I'd love to have Ohtani but that just ain't going to happen, no matter how we try to rationalize the money the Barves aren't going to do that.
I'm fine with that, if we move Acuna we'll get a ton and a half for him. Maybe even a 100 mph bullpen arm.
I think I saw this week since the Angels owner has decided not to sell the team it's more likely now they'll go ahead and sign Ohtani, they've never been shy about spending crazy money to say the least.
"is it legal for us to "negotiate" a contract agreement with Ohtani while he's still with the Angels?" Haven't got the slightest idea but maybe with the other teams permission? I'm not givin' up Acuna for 1 year of Ohtani. Unless I get him long term or at least 5-6 years before he can opt out...it's not happening!

Maybe they'll show up later.

It looks like the tampering rule is in MLB so you can't legally negotiate with a player on another team before his contract expires with that team. I couldn't find anything newer than 2018 or 2019 on it but I don't recall hearing any changes to that rule recently.
===================================================================================
"Anyway, Rule 3(k) on page 43 of the latest Rulebook governs tampering, and says this:
TAMPERING. To preserve discipline and competition, and to prevent the enticement of players, coaches, managers and umpires, there shall be no negotiations or dealings respecting employment, either present or prospective, between any player, coach or manager and any Major or Minor League Club other than the Club with which the player is under contract, or acceptance of terms, or by which the player is reserved or which has the player on its Negotiation List, or between any umpire and any baseball employer other than the baseball employer with which the umpire is under contract, or acceptance of terms, unless the Club or baseball employer with which the person is connected shall have, in writing, expressly authorized such negotiations or dealings prior to their commencement."

Well, if some random guy posted it on Twitter, it must be true..... I don't disagree with that assessment of him, though. He's very immature and he does play irresponsibly at times.

***Friction between the two sides has grown in recent weeks over his contract, the upcoming world baseball classic, his health, and his playing ability.***
This is so asinine I'm not even sure it warrants a response...but I'll give it a shot.
Friction? The guy just signed a contract and at no point, that I can recall, is he a malcontent regarding the contract.
World Baseball Classic? He's playing in it.
His health? Why would the Braves be the target of his displeasure. They have done nothing but provide the best care possible in the hopes that he returns to 100%
His playing ability is the only caveat here. Not his ability, because occasionally he can be the best player in the league. It's his inattention at times. Standing still on Realmuto's inside the park hr for example. Clownshow at home plate thinking he hit a hr...when he didn't. The over-exuberance will wane as he matures.
This kid isn't going anywhere. You never get back equal value. And his value and talent is so extraordinary that maybe 5 players on this earth can duplicate it.

I would rather we keep him, he clearly can be one of the best in the game, but I'd like to see him grow up some and start showing some leadership. He's 25 now and this will be his 6th year in MLB. I'm admittedly old school so I don't like all the hot dogging....I'm able to accept it more now since so many other players do it, but it's still ugly when you throw in that he played pretty lackadaisical in the field at times last year and didn't have a very good season. The knee was obviously an issue. It shouldn't be this year. So he needs to step up now.

I'm throwing the BS flag at this Acuña trade demand talk.
Local sources have claimed it's not true.
The single source of the rumor is spurious at best.
The supposed reasons are the WBC issue - He's being allowed to play in it, and a contract he is free to renegotiate. I haven't heard a word about that even being requested.
