In spite of all, the Braves have a 3.5 game lead. And to think we were 6+ games behind the Mets appx 3 weeks ago. I remember going into that 5-game series in NY, that it could be disastrous if we lost 4 our of 5 or all 5. We won 3 of 5, and I felt we should have won 4 of 5.

It's been a helluva turnaround to say the least. BTW, the chances of another sweep in Baltimore don't look good at the moment. The O's have lost 14 in a row and play the Rays again this afternoon. IF they lose again today, that means that a sweep by the Braves would mean the O's losing 18 straight........the law of averages is very heavily against you in that situation. Then again, if they win today, they might start feeling good about themselves and take the series with the Braves.

Josh Tomlin has pitched 8% of the bullpen’s innings in August and given up 40% of the bullpen’s runs.
HE'S GOTTA GO

Snitker: “If it wasn’t for the wind Sanchez‘s home run in the 9th is just a routine fly ball.”
Reporter: “The game was played indoors.”
Snitker “Yeah but they had the fans turned up really high.”

Its been a great 15 game run
Eventually it will come to an end and of course we will get beat at some point
That is reasonable, but to get beat the way they almost got beat last night - the probability of blowing an 8 run lead mostly on the issue of using a guy who has no business being on a MLB roster - that is the worst way to have a wonderful run like this end.
As it turned out, it worked all right - we are 3 and a half up and they did not blow it. That is a good thing, I am over the 9th inning.
But man, having Will HR Smith in this closers role - to me this is on our enabler of a manager
I guess some of you caught it the night before but one of the TV guys said that Smith is having a great year. It was in the 9th when he came in, its just unreal the excuses made for Will Smith
But we are in good shape in spite of Smith, Tomlin and Snitker's technical gaffes.
Life could be worse as Braves fans. At least we are not Orioles or Mariners fans

As a group we seem to know and understand more about Tomlin and Smith than the so called experts, no one wants to call anyone out and that just frustrates me that there is such nice guy coverage.
I guess I have posted that before but guess I am venting again, I won't post about it anymore but that does aggravate me. Hey, they would not even zing the fabulous Leon when he clearly was an incompetent player for us. Or Newcomb for not getting better - just tell it like it is us fans deserve honest objectivity.
And I will add that one of them said that Heredia was doing great -- now okay he was serviceable and held up to expectations but great? Come on. get real do these guys know what the H great is? And our coverage people are people who have been around the game. Even dip Chip has been around the game he grew up in it.
They almost all want to be liked by these guys instead of doing their job.

Really, our enabler in chief. He honestly cannot believe what he says in interviews. I am not saying Snitker is stupid, just a certified enabling excuse maker - just playing mind games to make the guys feel better after a crap outing His psycology does work overall, hard to argue first place as unorthodox as Snitker is

Josh Tomlin appeared in 7 games in July and had a 6.75 ERA.
He has appeared in 3 games in August and has an 18.56 ERA. In those three games he has pitched 5.1 innings and has given up 15 hits, 11 earned runs, has a WHIP of 2.70 and a batting average against of .500.
And since he has not appeared on the waiver wire today, he is apparently still on the team.
As bad as Shane Greene was, it is really easy to make the argument we should have kept him over Tomlin. Greene did only give up 3 runs in his last 8 innings with us. And Jacob Webb has given up no runs in his last 5 innings with us. But both of them are somehow more expendable than Tomlin. How bizarre.

Now wait a minute, I thought Tomlin really was throwing very well. Oh well, according to our manager that is the case. Guess results do not count (sarcasm of course)

I dunno... I heard his bat speed has slowed down.. plus that he's at that age where at any moment his performance could fall off the table. I made a prediction on Freddie's final numbers for the year a while ago. I think it was around the All Star break or sometime before. Don't know if I can find them. I think he was hitting about .260 at the time. Not sure what they were but I think about .304, 36, and 104. I may be low on all of them. Found it! It was a month ago just after the All Star game. I think Freddie was hitting about .280 at the time. Fun to lookl back at old post sometimes.
Fumb - I figure .293/100/39 PA- I'll go .302, 104, 36

Hey we're pretty smart!
I'm not going to dig for it but I was still pimping Fredrico back when he was hitting about .210 and people were questioning him. There's no doubt something was bothering him, but quite a few people were concerned he wasn't going to turn things around and I kept saying I had full confidence in him.
