Smith should be embarrassed to do the sword. He should be doing the butter knife.

There's a void in my heart, a hole in my life, knowing that we will not have the opportunity to get back to one game under .500 on Monday.

Gwinnett beats the Cardinals farm team again today 4-2. When they went into Memphis on Tuesday Memphis was on a 15 game winning streak, the longest in their history. Gwinnett went on to win 4 of the 6 games. The two losses were each 1 runs losses in the middle of the series.
Waters 1-4 Pache1-4 d"Arnaud 0-2 with a walk Camargo 3-5 with a 3B and 3 RBI Demerette 0-4
Another good outing for Kyle Wright, 6 innings and 2 earned runs, NO WALKS and 11 strikeouts! Also had a double off of Jack Flaherty making a rehab start.
Minter got his 5th save in ten days, he'll be back with the Barves soon. In those 5 outings he has given up no runs, no hits, 3 BB and 6 K's.

Let's face it...it doesn't matter how many times you shuffle this deck...this team is a two games under .500 team. Maybe next year.

We could definitely regret that. I doubt Jackson blows up, but he could. Hell, the way 2021 has gone, they'll probably both be All-Stars.

What if we miss the playoffs this year? Doesn't that constitute a 100% loss?
What if we make the playoffs but get slaughtered in the first round? Is that really a "win?"
What if we win the first round but lose in the second round? Is that a win?
All of this could be altered if we re-sign any of them (or don't buyout Duvall's last year), but are any of them really in our future plans?
It's possible we could say every one of these four outfielders are worth hanging onto, it's also possible that none of them are. I don't even know how you go about making those decisions if you're AA, you've got four big question marks going forward. None of them have established that they can be counted on to be more than a 1 WAR player, but all of them have shown at times to be 2 to 3.5 WAR players.

Being a win is something that will probably be very debatable unless something extreme happens. My guess is Jackson and Wilson go on to have decent careers as a solid backup catcher and a back of the rotation starter. Even with their success does it become a "loss" if Contreras/Langeliers and our bevy of young starting pitching comes through? We then look at what we got and being that I think this years ceiling is 1st round playoff exit, it comes down to next season. Do we exercise Duvall's option and he is an instrumental part of a 2022 championship team? Is Rodriguez a huge part of a solid bullpen for that team? Assuming I'm right about this year, we will still have to wait 2-3 years to know if we won or lost the trade. One thing for sure though... I'm not just blowing off losing Ball, Jackson and/or Wilson like some here have.

I think those trades made us better, maybe quite a bit, but still not good enough to really do much of anything. I wouldn't be surprised if we still miss the playoffs. And I have questions about where these new guys fit in our future. If any are on the team next year I would expect it to be Duvall, and he's really just a good 4th OFer bench guy, maybe a 1.0 1.5 WAR type player if he plays every day. We know his history, he's going to have amazing hot spells, strike out a lot and have long slumps and play good defense. That's probably all we're going to end up with out of all of these trades if we're going to re-sign Freddie, Morton, and be lining up to extend Dansby.
It's easy to say at least we didn't give up any of our top prospects, but if we still fall flat on faces this year then it was a waste of all three players, all three of which have a pretty good shot at being decent big league players. If nothing else they could have been used to get players that would help us in the future. Now they've been spent trying to half ass salvage a half assed season.

Just thinking how nice it would be to get Haniger, he's a FA after 2022 but hopefully you could sign him to an extension. He's one guy I'd give up a good prospect for if you knew you could sign him. Would Wilson and Ball have started a conversation? Maybe throw in Jackson even though they may not want him back who knows? Just trying to grasp the possible value of those three players, how they could have been used differently.
I noticed Haniger was picked 38th overall in the 2012 draft, we took Lucas Sims that year with the 21st overall pick.
