May backfire but I agree with Elder. He’s been here all season, can come through given recent rest, if not, short leash. Either way, offense needs to break out against Nola. Not expecting perfection from our #4 starter

Even when Elder is good he has runners all over the place. How will you know when to remove him on short leash? He could load the bases and give up a bases clearing double or induce a GIDP. If you remove him when he gets into trouble you take the chance missing the GIDP. Tough call but in many of Elder's good outings he was always pitching out of jams. Do you give him that chance or remove him? He also seems to struggle early walking guys.

It would be Morton if he was ready and we can list just as many doubts about him... easily. Smith-Shawver may have been great but this would be what... his 6th start in this environment. Elder may get rocked, but I think any choice other than a Tonkin led bullpen game is something I can live with.

Narddog remains at catcher. Snit must have read that he is 2nd in post-season HR's for a catcher.

Do you give him that chance or remove him? He also seems to struggle early walking guys. I watched just about all of his games when he pitched his last season at Gwinnett and I gave the same reports--he was good at getting out of jams, but the problem was he got himself in a jam 50-80% of the innings he pitched. When you do that and have to throw that many high stress pitches it will catch up to you, as well as the law of averages. This is who he has always been and always will be most likely. Like someone else had said, he has to have command or he's in trouble.
It's a really tough call when to pull him, I think we have to be safe and yank him as soon as he gets in trouble and gives up maybe a run or two at the most.
Then we have to have a short leash with Smith-Shawver or Tonkin, whoever comes in next.
We just need to a score a LAWT of runs.

I really hate what we gave up for what is now a true backup only catcher.

I really hate what we gave up for what is now a true backup only catcher. MY stomach literally did a flip I could feel the day I read we traded Contreras away, and that was just based on how sure I was he was going to be a really good MLB hitter.
If I was Murphy and this season plays out this way, I'd be demanding a trade in the offseason. He's gotten a raw deal in my opinion. He absolutely killed the first half, then suddenly he's playing every other day the entire second half. Who can play every other day and maintain a swing? No players who are above average or elite. Guys who hit .240 and OPS .650 to .700 can do that, as long as you're okay with crappy numbers. But good players have to be playing a whole lot more than Murphy has. It's bullcrap and I have no doubt it's made his hitting issues way worse.

Just a little FYI, the Pillarasaurus and Rosario both have 26 career playoff ABs against LHP:
Pillarasaurus: .231/.259/.423/.682
Rosario: .385/.448/.731/1.179
The Pillarasaurus is a beast.
Unbelievable. He should be used strictly as a late-inning defensive sub. He is a bench player …only ABs he should see are as a PH’r and only as a last resort.

With his .500 OPS since the 3rd week of June there isn't even anybody he should be pinch hitting for. Really he shouldn't be in the big leagues. He got 12 AB's last year in the majors. That's where he is now in his career. His OPS against LHP was something like .680 two years ago, he was out of the league last year, and his OPS against LHP was .730 this year. But Snitker is just in love with him, he HAS to have a guy like that on the team every year. He seems like a good guy, and he does hustle and play good defense, but the organization needs to be smart about what his actual talent is at this stage, and it does include a baseball bat in his hands......at the major league level. But he's Snitker's guy.

I'm scared of this game, the Faillies are clearly in our heads.
We won the season series and won 3 out of 4 in their ballpark while they were still playing for a spot....and it seems like we beat them in a game recently.......but we are clearly scared of them and Michael Lorenzen.
Not sure if this is a veiled attempt of "whistling past the grave yard"... but it sounds like it. On the surface I don't like the match-up. Clearly Elder was over-matched the last time he faced them. Not recording a strikeout in his 3.2 innings of work. While giving up 4 runs on 3 hits and 5 walks. We might be using 7 pitchers tonite. I do think we hit Nola. Hopefully more than they hit our guys... And another factor...the Braves didn't have to deal with a playoff atmosphere like they definitely will tonight.

If he can limit the walks he should be OK.
