Strider goes tomorrow to stave off elimination. He lost game one. It's quite possible...maybe even probable... that he loses game four with the way things are going.. To have your ace drop the two most crucial games of the year would be telling...

The irony is that fans complained for years that all of our top draft picks were used for pitchers--if one fourth of these top "prospects" had panned out we would have easily won 5 World Series in a row.
Allard Soroka Anderson Wentz Muller Wright Wilson Carter Stewart
Throw in top pitching prospects we had in the system we didn't draft:
Newcomb Aaron Blair Wisler Folty Gohara
It feels like I'm missing several, but for years it looked we would be a pitching powerhouse for years to come. Most of those guys sound like a joke now, but at one point they were all very highly regarded by "experts."
Damn, that's a LOT of misses.

I’m just disappointed in our lack of clutch hitting. We’ve had opportunities. But our swings and misses have been bad.

Game 1 loss was only telling us that we had no offense and our stupid manager probably shouldn't have mucked around with the batting order.

Going back a while remember Brandon Beachy signed as a free agent. He was off to a great start he first couple of years then had 2 Tommy John surgeries and was never the same. Also David Hale, a 3rd rounder, was good for his 1st and 2nd year but then flamed out but did have several good years as a reliever later. Lucas Sims 1st rounder also never lived up to expectations. Of course then there's Tommy Hanson with 3 or 4 good years and then his tragic death in 2015. Freddy Tarnok, 3rd rounder. Tucker Davidson and Patrick Weigel although not high picks showed promise in the minors. At one time I though Shae Simmons then Chad Sobotka then Jacob Webb might be our future closer.

Wondered what others thought about the Pfilthies purported motivation, in particular Bryce Harper’s offensive explosion in last night’s game? Based on reports and the comments made by the TBS analysts, word got out that Arcia’s mockery comment of Harper’s running blunder from game 2 got back to him and others. The “Run Bryce run” and “Atta boy” comments were made by Orlando in private while in the locker room, but picked up by media and spread. No doubt, smack talk can be a motivator.

No doubt, smack talk can be a motivator. So can hanging pitches in someone's wheelhouse. I don't put much stock in the smack talk motivation. Harper has owned the Braves in the post-season before that even occurred. Here's what I do put stock in on: The fact he has owned us in the post-season and we keep pitching to him. Case in point... we knew Harper was in the on-deck circle, yet we nibbled around at the batter before him and walked him, bringing Harper up with 2 on base. We have treated Harper just like he is Rojas or somebody else. I am not walking the guy before Harper... period, end of story. I don't care if that batter hits one to the moon, I am not letting Harper come up to the plate there after a walk. That guy is going to either strike-out or put the ball in play. There's a LOT of stupidity in our approach to this lineup that goes beyond the obvious stupidity of stupid batting order changes and stupid leaving pitchers in when it's obvious they are done. I think all that stupid comes from the top. That is something I put a lot of stock in.

I agree about the smack talk being almost completely meaningless. They all do it in the field to each other all the time anyway. So now supposedly we’re going to be more motivated to win tonight because of how Harper acted last night. If you need stuff like to motivate you you never would have made it to the big leagues. I’m sure they do get a charge out of it getting into the media because then the trash talker looks stupid to the whole world, they likely all laugh it off.

Have to agree, Harper has owned us and we should walk him more, cause, well, he owns us. It was so over played in the pfilly market, though, like they don’t throw beer cans and boo Santa Claus. Everybody talks a bit of smack … plus, much of the pitching they faced was like batting practice.

To have your ace drop the two most crucial games of the year would be telling... The offense lost game one. Stridor only had one earned run....okay, okay...his other run should be attributed to him by his own error. Seven innings and only two runs would make any pitcher happy. (The third run was Minter's). My husband who was a pitcher used to say 'don't blame the pitcher'....you can't win a ballgame with zero runs.
