Baseball has gone so far away from fundamentals it’s ridiculous. There’s a belief now that you get one great perfect hittable pitch per AB on average. So they’re ok with guys swinging because they don’t want them to end up taking that one golden perfect pitch. It’s nuts. It’s like the universal “go on contact” play now when there’s a runner on third no matter what the situation. If it’s hit in the ground run. Usually it’s an easy stupid out, for no reason. I appreciate that thought, hey I have been sort of saying the same thing but not as well as that statement. The launch angle, extreme shift, the idea that a strikeout is just another out and other thoughts is what has taken baseball away from much of the roots of its fundamentals. I wonder if Dansby came up a generation ago if he would be as streaky as he is. And Ozzie, it would have been accepted if he hit .300 with a .360 OPP and a dozen HRS with more use of his speed and he would be an All Star with those numbers. I think the perfect era for Ozzie would have been playing for those Whitey Herzog Cardinals. And he would still have some pop with 40 - 50 stolen bases The lifelong baseball man has been forced out of the game & who the H is thinking up the game as we know it now. Ozzie would have had to learn some degree of plate discipline to play for Whitey, he wouldn't have allowed him to swing as freely as he does.
