Aaron Blair released. www.ajc.com/sports/baseball/aaron-blair-released-braves/ArXlLwE3e2oW6yAobvEMIO/"Bourjos was back for a second stint with the major-league Braves because they needed a backup center field option in case of injury to Ender Inciarte. Rookie left fielder Ronald Acuna was the backup center fielder before he went on the 10-day disabled list this week with a sprained knee. The Braves could’ve opened a spot on the 40-man roster by placing Blair on the 60-day DL, but doing so would’ve required them to recall Blair from the Triple-A DL in order to put him on the major league 60-day DL, in which case he would have been paid a major league salary and also accrued a full season of service time."

So they prevented Blair from getting a full season of service time by releasing him? That's obviously counterproductive. Could the Braves really not afford to pay him the major league minimum? The Braves must have felt by now that Blair didn't even have a chance at a future in the bullpen.

That is unfortunate for Blair who worked hard to lose the 40 pounds and be in the shape of his life and had the unfortunate injury He is not that old -- maybe he can get another chance in a couple yrs once healthy -- look at Winkler who worked hard and made it back

Danny Santana called up....
and so it begins
Soroka back to the DL with the shoulder again. If this is more than creative use of the 10 day, then they need to shut him down for a long period.

Hate that, but I was already advocating a much longer DL stint than last time. I think they rushed him, and I don't like rushing a shoulder with this good of a prospect. I would rather lose him for this entire season instead of ruining his potential career. Current Braves Roster link

Acuna activated and will be back with the team on Friday.
Brandon McCarthy has been placed on the 10 day DL.
Fried is expected to be moved into the starting rotation temporarily.
Now what's wonderful is that we will obviously need to clear a spot for Max and the most likely candidates; Bourjos, Danny Santana, and Ryan Flaherty are all out of options. My guess would be Bourjos because no one claimed him the first time we released him and that enabled us to keep him when he accepted the minor league assignment instead of opting for free agency.

I think today is the day the braves need to make a huge Trade. this team needs a spark right now. we are playing a super hard schedule over the next 30 days and if we stay as we are now we will be in 2nd maybe 3rd place by Aug. and why send down Wes Parsons? why not just send down Bourjos and give Parsons a shot instead of wasting games on Fried? we Need some power in the worst kinda way. we need to take some pressure off Freeman who looks to be pressing right now and not having fun

Wouldn't Acuna offer some missing power?
and we can't just send Bourjos down. He has no options.

Zero loss.
