OF Acuña Neck Joyce Duvall/Riley Ender/Hamilton Charlie IF Freeman Oz Dansby JD Hech C McCann Flowers Cervelli SP Soroka Keuchel Fried Teheran Folty Martin Melacon Greene Newk Jackson Horshak/O'Day In a surprise move, Snit will want to use Fried out of the pen so he can have two lefties available in relief, and not have two rook playoff starters. I see that as a good guess--personally I question whether or not either of Duvall or Riley should be included. In theory you'd think 100% yes, we need that RH power bat off the bench or a spot start. But as I stated last night, Riley has an OPS around .500 since July 1st. Duvall had an OPS of .500 in August. They both look totally lost.
Personally I'd be getting Camargo some starts now to see if he can keep his roll going, because he provides a lot of flexibility and that can help on the playoff roster. He's capable of providing some right handed power off the bench and several other things. But we all know what the reality of this situation is going to be.

Yeah... I don't see any way we don't opt for the RH power bat of Duvall or Riley. I would think Duvall because of his defense.

Yeah... I don't see any way we don't opt for the RH power bat of Duvall or Riley. I would think Duvall because of his defense. I agree that's what will happen, but did you know that Duvall has one big league HR since August 2nd? And a .500 OPS with 23 strikeouts in 63 AB's? Riley's numbers are about the same. We can call those two "power bats" all we want and that's not what they've actually been at all. Camargo has actually hit 2 big league HRs in that period and has a .789 OPS during that period. Just things I like to notice for the fun of it.

I know, but Riley and Duvall seem like big power hitter type guys, so....

I read a article about possible post season roster and just like the one here it leaves off Tomlin. I think it would be a shame after all he has done to be left off roster I would rather carry 5 Of and have him even he he never pitches

Why in the world would you prefer to have a pitcher who would not sniff actually playing vs a position player that could pinch hit/pinch run etc?
That makes no sense.

Starting next season the roster size for post season goes down to 28 I think

I know, but Riley and Duvall seem like big power hitter type guys, so.... You're right, I'm sure to the braniac in charge they do look like baseball power hitter guys and that's what matters, lol....
I've given him a lot of crap over having his "guys" picked out that he gives a lot more leeway to--I do admit that probably 99% of the people in the world would be the same way. I would be, no doubt. My problem, my difference of opinion in that matter though is that I believe in giving everybody a fair shake, and if you aren't producing, your role changes. Our organization has not been run that for 30 years. We have set "the group" before the season starts and those guys are gonna be the guys no matter what. The organization has felt you get more out of the guys when they know their job is safe and their roles are 100% defined. I just feel differently. That system has worked for some guys, and not others. I just believe if you're not performing your role should change until you start showing some signs of turning it around. You're hitting 5th and have a .500 OPS for a month, you get moved down in the order and/or get some days off. You get bombed like Luke has since the All Star break, you only pitch in innings 4-6 until you start showing you can get guys out again. That's where I get outraged, when certain players do poorly for a long time and absolutely nothing changes. With most guys they'll eventually come back around, that's how they made it to a pro level, but how much does the team suffer in the meantime?
A big defense of the system is to say "well we're still wining aren't we?" On one hand that's true, but we've had an awful lot of things go right for us this year and we've had a lot of very stressful wins, we do not tend to make things easy on ourselves. I like the idea of shaking things up when you get guys in prolonged slumps. Not a week or two, but a month or two months? Man when a guy is sucking for that long, shake it up some! I think we have a ton of talent on this team, and to me that's why they manage to fight through and win these tough games, but why make things harder on ourselves than we need to?

and just confirmed by Kelsey, what I was just about to post..
As great as we've been playing as soon as Nick says he's ready, it's back the bench for Joyce and Neck will play every day even if he isn't hitting.

0.1 WAR player so far this year, but hey, he's the guy.
In only 195 ABs this year Joyce is a 1.1 WAR player. Huge improvement both with the bat and defensively.
But hey, he's not Snitker's guy.
I may have talked some about this stuff......lol......

It's called loyalty... Players love Snit because he is Loyal to them. Stat Geek managers watch playoffs from home

How many World Series Championships are won on loyalty? The teams that win the championships are most often the ones who field the best lineups, not the ones who choose Tomlin over a useable position player just "because". The ones that win are the ones who play Martin, Greene, and Meloncon (instead of cutting them) over Luke and and some other guys who never even sniffed the MLB roster this season. The guys in the playoffs are the ones giving the .296 batter with the .891 OPS (.316 against LHB) some playing time.

Loyalty, like the Chris Reitsma loyalty, that worked out well.....plenty of other names to throw out there. Loyalty doesn't mean much in the playoffs when your manager is making bonehead decisions.

We saw some more of that loyalty to Minter last night. People who wouldn't use Minter in a close game watch playoffs from home, bub!

The Braves today recalled Grant Dayton from the 60 day DL (wink, nudge) and placed AJ Minter on the 60 day DL with (wink, wink) shoulder inflammation.
Thus endeth the great AJ Minter 2019 adventure and funtime campaign.
