Was just reading the mlbtraderumors article about the Shelby Miller trade, and they mentioned Swanson's statcast data. So sure enough, I checked out baseballsavant, and wouldn't you know he ranked above-average in just about every measurable statcast category?
Would you believe it if I told you the statcast data thought Swanson's 2019 batting line should have been:
.271 / .343 / .480 / .823
If he put that up, with his solid defense, we're talking about a big-time piece to our roster.

I'm vaguely familiar with statcast, I know some people think highly of it. In this case I find it a bit of a stretch for a guy's who actual career slashes are .245/.318/.385/.703 in almost 1800 career PA's, a fairly significant sample size.
He's certainly shown the potential to be an .823 OPS guy but injuries and severe inconsistencies have thwarted him so far.

Yes I saw this or something similar a few weeks ago on MLB. They said basically he suffered from some really bad luck on a lot of really well struck balls. I do agree with Uck though that he needs to get through a season without injury and show better consistency. While he did have some bad luck, he did also have periods where he stopped taking the ball opposite field as well.

The potential is still there, its been a matter of overall consistency
He has decent defensive skills and enough pop, but as mentioned I want to see avoidance of injury and more consistency before I stake him to a long term deal.
I think he can do it but I want to see it
Even as Dansby and Ender are, we got the way better end of that deal. It was unfortunate that injuries and whatever curtailed Shelby Miller's career, he looked like the real thing in STL and even his one year here.
