If we have to go to Tomlin than we're pretty much toast anyway. Ideally, we get 6 to 7 strong from the starters and then turn things over to Newk, Martin, Greene and Melancon. If we're seeing many innings out of Tomlin or Swarzak than we are not moving on, plain and simple. Luke is going to see some prime time innings too. True. Forgot about Luke.

Career --Tomlin 978 IP =181 dingers Teheran 1360 IP =176 if I factor in the history of Braves/Julio this decision leaves me rather incredulous. But Go Braves!

Y'all are focusing too much on 1 stat: HR's
The Cards were 24th in HR's, not really a huge part of their game.
WHIP Tomlin 1.122 Julio 1.323
Walks per 9 Tomlin .8 Julio 4.3

I really hope you're right Tomlin could blow up and do something terrible, but that still doesn't mean it was an abysmal call to choose him over Teheran... that's all I'm really saying. I'm tough on the manager, but it's hard to beat him up for this one. Personally I think neither guy would make much difference in the end.

I agree....if the Braves are bringing in Tomlin or Julio for long relief that means they're in a heap of trouble already.

WHY is Swarzak on the roster? Julio now officially has the right to be pissed.

Where has anyone seen the "official" playoff roster. I haven't seen it released.... only speculation. MLB Trade Rumors is where I saw that, but it's not official. I really don't see why we would carry Swarzak, so I may have jumped the gun on that. I do believe, though, that we might have seen the last of Julio in a Braves uniform. His option is what? $12 million? I don't see the Braves doing that with all the young pitchers who should be able to provide similar results at a fraction of the cost. We shall see.

I would be a bit worried about only having 1 left handed reliever. That's why I thought they may have chosen to have Fried in pen.
I would be so concerned about that if I was determined that Fried had to be held back for a possible game 4 start, I might opt for Blevins over Swarzak.

Mark Bowman @mlbbowman The Braves will not carry lefty specialist Jerry Blevins during this series against the right-handed heavy Cardinals. Blevins, Austin Riley, Kyle Wright and Bryse Wilson were among the players sent to work out at the team's Spring Training complex during this series.

I suppose Swarzak is on the roster for some reason. A reason that is beyond my admittedly limited grasp.
