Johnny Cueto, RHP, 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 6 K's Cueto gets his third start of the season for the Giants when he faces the Braves. He has not given up a run in 10 innings pitched, while opponents are batting .129 against him in two starts.
vs
Max Fried, LHP, 16-6, 4.25 ERA, 166 K's Fried has allowed five earned runs in three of his past five starts, but he's just two weeks removed from a seven-inning gem against the Nationals. He lasted just 2 1/3 innings in Sunday's start at Nationals Park.

We are really lucky to have two off days this week. Every starter should get two more days off and we can go into the playoffs kick ass fresh.

Yeah, no reason to start Fried today, either. Give the ball to Wilson, Touki, or Wright. IMO.

I think you plan on maybe only 5 innings or so depending on pitch count, but I don't think it's wise to mess up the routine and just skip a Fried start. Him and Folty are both in the mix for a DS rotation spot.
I do still stick with my original prediction of Fried to the pen and Folty in the rotation, but I still don't think you skip his start.

Lineup: Jr. rf Hech 2b Haircut 3b Duvie lf Cervelli c Riley 1b Fansby SS Hammy cf Max p I like the personnel and getting some guys some rest as I said, but I would have Dansby batting second, I think he needs as many ABs as he can get, he's as lost as ever at the plate right now. He never came out of his funk last year until he had the offseason to regroup and heal and all that, but he doesn't have time to regroup now, to me the other option is get him as many ABs as you can and hope he stumbles on something. If Hecchavarria keeps hitting a case could almost be made for him to start at SS in the playoffs. Dansby hasn't been as good this year in the field, and we've gotten super lucky that Hech has been hitting. He's a terrible hitter over his career. Hech is at least as good with the glove and since the All Star break Dansby has been .179/.303/.223/.526. Yeah was hurt in there, but if it's affecting your play in some way you shouldn't be out there in my opinion.

Yeah, I thought Dansby had turned the corner, but I'm starting to think that other than the occasional hot streak, that he's just never gonna be much of a hitter. Other guys get injured, come back, and hit, so I'm not buying that. It's time to stop making excuses for him.

I agree, and "yeah but he gets hurt every year" isn't much of an argument in his favor overall either. Strikes out WAY too much as well. He's not a power hitter and he's striking out like one. The juiced balls are helping his HR total (and he has none since the break by the way), if they go away from those he's going to be a .680 OPS guy who strikes out 120 times per season, and that's only getting 480 AB's per season.

I don't necessarily disagree with that, but it seems every time Fried gets extended rest, he comes back unhittable. Would be nice to go into the playoffs with that Fried. At the same time, you wanna be sharp. Who knows, right?

I think Juna would be better off just letting the high strikes go by and hoping the ump calls it a ball, because he sure as hell can't hit it.
