If they don't get their heads out of their collective hindends there won't be a post season roster. The fat lady hasn't started singing yet. With a sweep the Nats could be right back to 5.5 out by the end of the weekend with 12 to play and we still have to face the Phillies 3 more and the Mets who may be fighting for their playoff lives the last 3 of the season. It's a tall task for the Nats but has been done before. LOL. Well, I look at it this way. If we choke this lead away, we don't deserve to even be the wild card, so I'd just as soon stay home.

If we choke this lead away, we don't deserve to even be the wild card, so I'd just as soon stay home. 1964 Philadelphia Phillies Keeping with teams going on massive losing streaks, the Phillies, up 6.5 games on Sept. 21, 1964 with 12 games to play, somehow lost ten straight, letting the St. Louis Cardinals steal the pennant. The most embarrassing part is that the Phillies had three chances to deal the Cardinals a death blow, giving not only themselves a chance but the Cincinnati Reds as well in a three-team playoff. However, that never occurred because the Cardinals won the series to cap the worst collapse in Philadelphia history. Also known as the Phold, the Phillies never fully recovered and ended up not making the playoffs until 1976. Before that, they only made the elimination round in 1915 and 1950. Suffice to say, this collapse was not met kindly by the well-known tough-love fans in Philly. bleacherreport.com/articles/1353871-the-top-15-most-memorable-pennant-race-collapses-in-baseball-history#slide3

W5. L3 last 8 against gnats and Phils = okay Exactly. In fact, it's better than OK. 5-3 projects to 100-60. Just sayin'.

McCann is hitting .179 for the season against lefties, and Snit lets him bat against the lefty with 2 on in the 8th, down a run, with 2 right handed catchers and Charlie on the bench. Ok Snit guys... defend that. teh loyalty

Ok Snit guys... defend that. Could have been getting McCann ready for the postseason where he might have to face a tough lefty, especially if the Braves only carry two catchers. Also, McCann had seen Alvarez more than the potential pinch hitters (11 ABs vs. a collected 1 AB) and had homered twice off of him. Maybe Snit was hoping he'd run into one. We also don't know how available Cervelli or Flowers really were - could have been banged up - it is the end of the year after all. A lot of factors could have played into the decision.

Yeah, but I know which factor I'm going with.

Yeah, but I know which factor I'm going with. The popular yet misinformed one? 😀

One event taken on its own is defendable. Looking at things in context of the entire season may have some view things differently.
Snit has a lot of good qualities, but let's not kid ourselves that in game X's and O's are his strongest area.

Yeah, but I know which factor I'm going with. The popular yet misinformed one? 😀 Misinformed? Just because you came up with some possible explanations that doesn't make anybody misinformed. We're all just stating opinions. None of us know what was actually going on or what's ever going on behind the scenes. There's just as much chance that Snitker doesn't know how to think things through or pay attention to stats and trends when he's making moves as any of the options you offered.
