If the Braves play .500 from here in, the gnats have to go 19-8 to tie.

Today's lineup: Acuna(R) RF Albies(S) 2B Freeman(L) 1B Donaldson(R) 3B McCann(L) C Swanson(R) SS Ortega(L) LF Hamilton(S) CF Teheran(R) P Would it really kill us to give Donaldson or freeman a day? Kinda glad we didn't rest Freddie today

He still makes a valid point. Every time we give Freddie even half a game of rest he seems to come back on fire.
Freddie too is the exception to many maxims. I mean Freddie would be the one you really played more than anyone, but they all might need a day here and there to be fresh come playoff time. We've talked about it all year. His ability to go off one game which he can do at anytime does not justify never giving him any time off.
I think more than physical... it gives the players a mental break. When we took Freddie out it and still kept scoring it reminds him he doesn't have to carry the load alone, and I think that pays huge dividends as it keeps them from pressing.
I'm glad we didn't rest him today either, but I have never thought a stars ability to carry the team at any moment was proper justification to never give them a game off once every couple of months.

A) Probably not if your claim is the day off hurts him. In fact... considering how much he tears the ball up when he comes back after an off day, it would probably help. B) If your claim is it hurts him; Since when should we cater to a player's personal achievements instead of the good of the team?

And him playing better after an off day is a maybe and most likely a probably not.. But him not playing is a definite MVP non advance

So what if we give him an off day on a day when he goes 0-4?
I've already stated my reasoning for why you can't cherry pick a single day and say "see that proves you should never give him a day off".

It cracks me up that we're supposed to worry about the timing of one of the best hitters in baseball if we give him a day off, but not see timing as a factor for the poor schleps who are getting 2-4 AB's per week. Somehow those guys are supposed to be better at maintaining their timing in far harsher circumstances than one of the best hitters in baseball.
